Reminds me of why I got into gaming in the first place.

Do you all remember back in the day when games made no sense at first, but that didn't matter because when you got lost in the game it all added up? Killer 7 takes it to that level. The first level (a training run really, thus level 0) is just odd at first. There are a myriad of elements all over the place and it seems like you are just playing to move on. If you get past that the game opens up incredibly. I can understand why some are turned off. The game is fundamentally a rail shooter with puzzle and adventure elements and a bit of RPG level customizing. I know, thats a lot to try and combine. They actually pull it off. I won't get into the story, just imagine if David Lynch was asked to write a game about assassins and this would probably be the closest answer you could get. The game play is a bit awkward at first, but by the actual first level I personally felt pretty comfortable and felt I could move fluidly. The story I won't comment on. I love it. Some won't. Though in no way similar in game play or style, the philosophy reminded me of Psychonauts or Oddworld games. I can't think of a game to compare it to. The action is very frenetic and it does get repetitive if you don't really enjoy it since respawns are generally the same in all areas. I recommend a rent or borrow, but encourage a real dig into the game if you do. I think most that respect gaming as a creative form will respect the unique qualities. I would love to say that if you liked game X, you will love this, but I can't think of a comparison. If anyone can think of one, please message me. I discovered it late and scooped it cheap used and have been hooked since. One major point is that it is not a free roaming game that you can just sandbox in. It pushes you into the story and expects you to play along. You have a focused mission and that is the task at hand. I actually really liked that since it made the game more cinematic and not just random tasks. Sorry if this review was a bit scatterbrained........blame it on Killer 7.
