Since the creation of video gaming, there has never been a game quite like Killer7.

Set in the near-future, a new terrorist group known as "Heaven's Smile" have been causing panic around the world in order to increase tension between Japan and the United States. Impossible to see with the naked eye, there's only one way to take care of them, a group of specially-trained assassin's known only as Killer7. Each of the Killer7 has their own individual moves, appearences and specialities, all of which are essential throughout the games many chapters. The game also uses a new form of cel-shading, a style that Grasshopper Studio's are currently adapting for their next game: No More Heroes.

GAMEPLAY:
+ Original control scheme.
+ Use of character's different abilities are well thought-out.
+ Interesting puzzles and boss battles.
+ Many new game mechanics never seen before in a video game.
- Linear on-rails exploration will put off many people.
- Some abilities don't seem particularly useful.

GRAPHICS:
+ Cel-shaded graphics give the game is own trademark look.
+ Smooth animation.
+ Nice variety of locations.
+ No slowdown to speak of.
- Simplistic nature of the graphics are a "love it or hate it" affair.
- Graphics do have a few rough edges.

SOUND:
+ Solid voice acting accompined by a witty, well-written script.
+ Weapons pack a nice punch.
+ Original soundtrack as bizarre as the game, and it's fantastic.
- Voice samples get repetitive fairly quickly.

VALUE:
+ Game will take up to 15 hours to complete.
+ Unlockable Killer8 mode.
- No multiplayer.
- Despite a harder challenge and an extra character, Killer8 really isn't enough for a second playthrough.
- Some story elements can be a bit too confusing for one's own good.

REVIEWER'S TILT:
Very few people played Killer7. And while it's not surprising in some ways, it's still a huge shame that a game so different is ignored by so many gamers out there. Granted, it looks strange, and the gameplay is just as bizarre, but that's where this game succeeds. If you're the kind of person who is fed-up with playing the same old stuff over and over again and want to find something completely different, Killer7 is exactly what you need.
