To say Gran Turismo is "genre defining" would be an understatement.

-Good sense of speed.
-Engines sound good.
-The ability to update cars and work your way through various leagues is fun and immersive.
-The game will last you for several weeks, if not months.
-The physics just don't compare to those of Nascar 2003, GTR, rFactor, or Forza Motorsport. This is the games biggest problem.
-Soundtrack is kind of annoying.
-Only 11 tracks.
-The game is ridiculously small compared to the newer versions.
-A lot of races are too easy, but the licenses are insanely hard.
So basically, Gran Turismo is a fun racing game, but the subtitle "ultimate driving simulator" is somewhat misleading. While the driving model is good, it's still too easy to bounce off of other cars and slide unrealistically through the turns. But if you like racing games, I would recommend this to you regardless of its shortcomings.
