Why does "Difficult" = "Bad"?

User Rating: 9.4 | Kid Icarus NES
First, the 9.5 rating is based on what the game was when it came out, not what it currently is compared to current generation and next generation games.

So why does everyone feel that difficult games are not good? I see this theme over and over. Once upon a time, games were difficult, and that made them enjoyable, and very satisfying once you were able to finish them. For those who grew up with the original NES (the 30-40 year old crowd), this was the norm.

This was a typical platformer with a twist, that at the end of each "world", there was a level that featured a more open ended design. It is pretty well described in the GameSpot review. It is not a long game and from start to finish probably takes 2-3 hours, if you don't die.

I liked it, and still like it, because not every person could just pick it up and burn through it like a lot of today's games. It separated the men from the boys, to a degree. Although once you pass the first world (finish 1-4), most can start to afford the upgrades required to make it the rest of the way without croaking.

So don't be a wimp, drop the 500 Wii points, get this game, and settle in for a challenge.
