No save mode makes this game extremely difficult to beat.

My friend lent me his “Kid Chameleon” cartridge some time ago, and I found it to be a very unique game for the Sega Genesis, and thought it was actually one of the better titles on that console.

The player controlled the title character through scores of levels, and battled untold numbers of enemies. In “Kid Chameleon,” the title character possessed no inherent powers, but could temporarily obtain different powers by donning a hat or helmet. The powers would last until a new hat was donned, or an enemy struck the title character. At the end of each level, the title character would be transported to the next; in some levels there were points at which the title character could jump ahead multiple levels.

What made “Kid Chameleon” such a fun game was the variety of attacks possible with the multitude of head wear at the title character’s disposal.

Unfortunately there wasn't a save feature on “Kid Chameleon.” There were so many levels, and it took so long to advance, that it became infuriating to start from the beginning after all of the character's lives were expended. My friend played through for over three hours straight, and passed through over 30 levels before all his lives ran out without reaching the end. Fortunately the game designers of today have realized that most folks don’t have all sorts of free time to devote to gaming, and have included save features into pretty much every game being released now.
