"An Unappreciated Game for the SNES"

User Rating: 8 | Jurassic Park SNES

Jurassic Park for the SNES is truly an underrated or unappreciated gem that rarely makes the light of day. Many people probably heard of it or own it like myself and others probably never knew it even existed at all.

The Game:

You start with the famous "Welcome to Jurassic Park" computer animated voice which sends a chill down the spine (or at least it does for me sometimes) and your eyes sees a very familiar character...Dr. Alan Grant with his khaki/cargo-ish pants, his blue dress shirt, and his famous paleontologist hat. Your weapon is a cattle prod similar (now I said similar not the same) as Resident Evil 5 with Heavy Metal/Gunner Chris's alternate costume or Resident Evil 6 with Sherry but the only difference is that Grant's weapon shoots out sparks. But as you progress you get to get different weapons (but you can only carry two at a time the cattle prod is a default so you will always have that) and explorer different parts of the map once you pick up the I.D. Cards.

Goal/Mission:

Warning..This part will contain spoiler information, if you haven't played the game before read at your own risk.

Dr. Grant basically has to kill dinosaurs, avoid getting eating by T-Rex, trampled by the Triceratops, re-boot the park, clear the Visitor's Center of the velociraptor nest and block it and do the same for on the boat to stop them from getting on land. And collect dinosaur eggs that are scattered around the park.

Controls:

There isn't much to say about the controls. Never had any problems with them yet.

Grips with the Game:

During the course of the game, you encounter a maximum of five dinosaurs which is okay since they are basing it sort of on the movie on which each dinosaur had a "moment" on screen except the baby ones that you encounter (not counting the scene where Dr. Grant picks up the baby velociraptor.) It's nice to play as Dr. Grant but I wish you could have played other characters like Lex and Tim or Dr. Sattler. And finally the game is about 40-50% of the movie and 50-60% of the book. SPOILER!...If you haven't read the book read further at your own risk.

The Book..It's very good
The Book..It's very good

The movie was pretty great for its time and still is considered great but they left certain things out from the book in which the game incorporates like finding the velociraptor nest in the Visitor's Center and destroying it/blocking it. If nobody has read the book then it's a little frustrating because you think they added random stuff but they really didn't..

Overall:

Like I said earlier this game is underrated and it is a pretty fun game to play. To get it used today is pretty cheap, it's under $10 so don't be afraid to try it.

Happy Gaming :)
