I just got into the series 2 days ago, starting with Stardust Crusaders. How do the other story arcs hold up?

    My favorite is Stardust Crusaders.

Diamond is Unbreakable is an easy second, and Stone Ocean and Steel Ball Run are right below it, but I think Vento Aureo is the weakest point of the series, only beating out the first part. It's still good, though.

    My favorite is Part IV
I didn't like Part V until AFTER I finished reading it. It was a cooler Part than I thought.
I have mixed feelings about Part VI, but it was by no means any less than the others in the action/fighting parts.
Part VII was amazing... I dunno if it's because it became monthly, but Araki-sensei is amazing to keep pulling new stuff out for a series that's gone on for 25 years (for most of which it was weekly.)

I just have to say that, you won't be dissapointed

The order I like them in is 7 > 4 > 2 > 6 > 5 > 3 > 1, part 1 only being last because it's really just so short and simple compared to the rest and Araki was still figuring out what he was doing with the series. As of now part 8 is shaping up to be in the top 3-4 for me, but it's still too soon to say for sure.

Part 8 is shaping up to be a great part, but as someone already stated it hasn't really started so its hard to say. As for the finished parts, 7 is my favorite followed by 5. Then it goes 6>4>3>2>1.

Part 2 is my favorite, then comes Part 3, Part 7, and Part 8. I can't say for Part 4-6 because I never really read them, though I'm currently reading Part 4 in all its Duwang glory.

Battle Tendency, maybe. Or Diamond is Unbreakable, Vento Aureo, Steel Ball Run or...

Do not make me choose. IMO the quality is pretty consistent through all the parts except Phantom Blood (it was okay-good as opposed to awesome)

    7 > 4 > 2 > 5 > 6 > 3 > 1

They're all great really but if I have to put them in order that'd be it.

    I haven't read Part 8 yet.

    My top 3 is
    1) Ougon no Kaze
    2) Stardust Crusaders
    3) Diamond ha Kudakenai

I`m currently enjoying Jojolion but like Steel Ball Run, it is a separate universe from parts 1-6 therefore I kinda feel bot hare separate (I think Araki does due to the naming).

I have the special boxes of the manga Parts 1+2, 3 and 5 (will collect 4 and 6 when I can lol).

Stone Ocean is my favourite Story Arc
  • Oct 20, 2012 1:38 pm GMT
    6>4>3>5>2>1>7

part seven is last because I expected so much more from it, not that it's necessarily worse than 1 or 2. it just SHOULD'VE been a lot better based on the quality of parts 4, 5, and 6.

part 8 is already looking like it's alleviating most of the problems I had with part 7. hype.

    4>7=5>6>2>3>1

Jojolion is shaping up very nicely. I think it'll be my favorite when all is said and done. The whole series is awesome though.

    2 > 4 > 3 > 6 > 5 > 1
I just started 7, but I have a feeling it'll be my second or third favorite when I'm finished with it.

Starting reading the series from the beginning after this game was announced, and am only part way through 6. It has been a long time since I read 3 (own the Viz translations), so it's placement might off. Of course all of them are good, but my personal ranking is:

    2 > 3 > 6 so far > 5 > 4 > 1

1 gets way, way too slow after the mansion incident. As much as the pacing is too fast in episode 4 of the anime, I can't wait to just get to the final Dio scenes in PB. It works for the more important scenes, but Jonathan too nice to be entertaining for the slower parts.

4 is way too random IMO. I love parts of it (the chef guy!), but it just swings too hard from casual fun to dire fights for life, and Josuke's powers trivialize the threat of death to anyone but himself. Jotaru exists solely to make other, less useful character look good (HATE the first Killer Queen fight. Also, why does everyone know the details of his powers? I thought people keep that stuff secret). Finally, the fact that Another One Bites the Dust is overly convoluted, to the point that it causes Kira to lose despite the fact that he already won, sucked the fun out of the finale for me. It's the only arc where bad writing makes the ridiculousness of JJBA stupid instead of awesome. Still fun though.

5 feels more like 3, but has more of the abstract stuff introduced in 4. Once Requiem gets introduced it kind of goes off the rails IMO. Also, what the heck are King Crimson's powers?

I actually like the change of scenario for 6. Just finished the frog-rain part. I like the characters better than 5's so far. Will judge it later.

3 is just solid. Everything is new and really intense. All the heroes are awesome in their own way. Every fight is either super epic and dire, even when played for laughs. The finale is one of the most exciting parts of any super hero fiction I've even read or seen. It's the reason I got into the series, and I love it.

But then there's Battle Tendency. All the awesome of 3, but with the themes, drama, and small, well-developed cast that makes Phantom Blood still special despite it's short comings. Perfect.
