Great and addicting game!
Jetpack joyride is a comical take on a side scrolling action platformer, the continuous screen movement speeds up as the time elapses making carefully timed and executed dodges and jumps imperative. There are many upgrades available in this game that range from absurd to critical. The gadgets that you can unlock range from sneakers allowing you to jump quicker, a gravity belt that allows you to drop faster, and a coin magnet to a rainbow jetpack, fruit jetpack, and snow machine jetpack. (the jetpack upgrades only seem to have visual consequences and no performance boosts even though they are expensive upgrades)
Your name is Barry and you will make hundreds of runs through the same level attempting to navigate around lasers, missles, and more as you try to snag game tokens (allowing for bonus coins at the end of the level and small upgrades), game coins, and vehicle boxes. The vehicles are in essence an extra life, as you will be able to take a direct hit by a missle or laser beam before reverting to Barry with the jetpack.
The time spent with this game was fun at first as the whimsical and comical takes on a side scrolling were cute and amusing, but after your taste for a few upgrades are quenched, and you realize the frivolity of some of the expensive upgrades lead to no performance boosts, boredom starts to creep in. After about 100 runs on the same level and 100,000+ coins later, the game just starts to lose its novelty appeal.
We are looking for some level variations, obstacle variations and sense of accomplishment in future episodes if the Jetpack Joyride and Barry saga should continue. This genre definitely has legs and we hope some other game developers pick up on the cute factor and some of the subtle humor that is well built into this game.
