A solid Strategy RPG that's worth getting for anyone who's a fan of the genre.

User Rating: 7.5 | Jeanne d'Arc PSP
The story of Jeanne D'Arc has been retold countless times. In this rendition, Jeanne is accompanied by two companions as she ventures to help France in it's war against the English. New to the story is the inclusion of Humanoid-Lions, Magic, and Mythical Bracelets which allows the wearer to don a powerful suit of armor. If you have not be turned off by these inclusions, then you may be interested in this game.

The first half of the game follows the true story of Jeanne D'Arc pretty faithfully. Once you get through the half way mark, the game new longer follows the true history. This is not a problem however because the story is interesting and entertaining. The inclusion of two new companions for Jeanne (Roger and Lianne) was a smart move. The characters in this game, particularly Jeanne and Roger, are likable. Jeanne's characterization throughout the game was done well. She evolves from a head strong young girl into a calm and confident woman.

The gameplay is rather simple compared to other Strategy RPGs like Disgaea or Final Fantasy Tactics. Each character has his or her own unique traits to be utilized on the battle field. Some characters are more powerful attackers, while others are great dodgers and have a terrific move rate. The gameplay at times can be generic because there is nothing especially unique about it. All the basics like attacks, magic, and special abilities are all present and accounted for. Some characters, such as Jeanne, can transform into powerful Knights, which allows new, more powerful moves to be available. As a way to increase difficulty, a turn count and other special requirements are implemented in every battle. Every Battle requires you to complete in a certain amount of terms, although very rarely will you even come close to reaching the limit. There are also battles in where one particularly character must not die or it'll be game over. These can be particularly annoying, but the missions are pretty easy. It is not until the last leg of the game that you'll encounter truly challenging missions. The final boss itself can be easily broken, I myself in one instance beat the final boss in three turns only using 4 of my characters.

There are various extra missions to perform in the game. Doing this unlocks new moves, and new transformations for the characters. While there are not to many of them, they will keep you playing the game for an extra hour or two.

That aside, this is a game worth picking up if your interested in a RPG for your PSP this is a title for you. Due to it's simple gameplay and rather easy campaign, it may turn off some hardcore fans, but it is a RPG worth playing if your a fan of the genre, or even looking to get into the genre.
