We speak to the Titanic director about his involvement in the game based on his forthcoming big-budget sci-fi movie, Avatar.
Sounds cool.
Ugh show us some of the game already
yeah the creator of the sixth sence m, nigh, shamalamadingdong is making "The Last Airbender" which is a movie based on the show avatar. This is not based on the show from nickelodeon. This movie looks like it could be interesting. Plus Segourney Weaver is a cougar. GRRRRR
To TJP2010, and anyone else who may be confused about this, James Cameron's Avatar has NOTHING to do with the Nickelodeon cartoon "Avatar: the last air bender." Here is a little bit of infor I copied from wikipedia: Avatar is set during the 22nd century on a small moon called Pandora, which orbits a gas giant, and is inhabited by the tribal Na'vi, ten foot blue humanoids that are peaceful unless attacked. Humans cannot breathe Pandoran air, so they genetically engineer human/Na'vi hybrids known as Avatars that can be controlled via a mental link. A paralyzed Marine named Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) volunteers to exist as an Avatar on Pandora, falling in love with a Na'vi princess and becoming caught up in the conflict between her people and the human military that is consuming their world.
fantastic show, hope this turns out awsome!!!! Don't fail me!!!! But the whole not showing anything AT ALL on the game was the biggest fail of microsofts conferance. Along side nintendos not showing Zelda, and sonys not dropping the PS3 price.
for those of you that dont know, avatar is a world in where there are four nations, and each nations people have abilities to control elements. Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. and the Avatar is the only person that is able to control all four elements with great power.
looks awesome, james cameron is great
james cam's works are among the bests, nobody is nowhere near him,
This is the first EVER movie game i getting my hopes up for (specially since its going to be 3-d and its being endorsed by James Cameron) So it better not disappoint in anyway. Its time they turned the movie-game business around. I hope the visuals are the same quality as AC2 and the same sense of adventure like Fable.
yes what is avatar about? And im glad that Cameron finally realizes the problem with movie-based games: they suck. I look forward to seeing what this is about later on.
great idea his got there, cant wait
what is avatar aboute?
can't wait...
good
James Cameron is so awesome. I've been waiting for the Avatar movie for....probably at LEAST 2 years now. But the thing that ticks me off....is that I probably STILL know more about the game now than I do about the friggin movie!!!!! I think a trailer release is in order Mr. Cameron. Please I MUST see a trailer. :P
wair is game lol
he has really dropped his arrogant attitude. good for him!
Just talks and not even a picture to show for it?
Tell the game, but dont show it! I like that, James Cameron is a guy that we need to improve video games based on films or tv shows, James is a LEGEND when it comes to movies, shows, and games!
I simply love him, he's one of the best! I become extremely happy when I see such a legendary director has this amount of knowledge about game-making and cares about it. We definitely need more of these guys in the industry.
Too long on stage? If James Cameron came on stage in front of me and wanted to talk about his new movie and the creative process, he can pull a Hugo Chavez and get nary a complaint from me.
This is the right attitude for great movie game making. Unfortunately, not every director has the kind of influence that Jim has. We have yet to see a AAA game based on a movie or television show. The mediums are sooo different. I can not allow myself to become excited about a movie/game until it's reviewed. But, if this would have turned out to be a FPS, I would have wretched.
Show don't tell. Golden rule for any medium. Sounds like a winner.
Jim knows what he's doing. As far as I'm concerned this could be the best movie game since Riddick. Pandora's going to be great for exploration. I'm imagining a combination of Jurassic Park and Tribes theme. And in 3D! Now that should be great for immersion.
This guy is a pure genius and visionary. Maker of some of the best movies ever made, it's too bad his movies don't come out too often. I don't care how long he talks.....he knows his stuff.
Looking forward to the movie.................

I really want to learn more about both the game and movie, I haven't even seen a trailer for either and I feel pumped for them both...
Cameron is awesome.
Oh, you should have been there when he was talking live. I was watching simultaneously on GS and on GameTrailers (since GS was having a laggy stream), and 90% of the commentators were behaving like little b!@ches (like Red_Jester, uberjannie, shinian below), I'm paraphrasing here - "why is he talking so much", "go away", "I wanna see games", "I hate French people", "why are they talking so much", etc. I blame the instant gratification culture that fuels the ADD most of these people have. Otherwise it was a great press conference (yes, it was a "press conference", they are supposed to talk at a press conference), tons better than the EA one anyway.
This guy talks a lot... and I mean A LOT. :P
james cameron is a very ambitious when it comes to big releases. hopefully the movie and game work out.
This guy was on stage for WAAAAY too long at the Ubisoft conference. Holy hell. he was up there for like 30 mins just talking about the movie and barely talking about how it relates to the game and Ubisoft. That said, the movie sounds pretty ambitious. They're putting more promises behind this game than any movie-based game that has com before it. They have a lot to live up to.
lol happycamper... cave in utah
to uberjannie: Are you serious? Youve never heard of James Cameron? So i take it you have never seen Terminator, Terminator 2, Aliens, or True Lies...thats pretty sad. Do you maybe live in a cave in Utah or something?
great guy, great interview
Shinian, did you and I just watch different vidoes? "Not the Oscars"? Everything he was talking about was about the Avatar universe, and where the game will fall in it. I am really pleased that he took time to find a company that wasnt just looking to capitalise on the movies success. Plus, 'cmon....this is James Cameron!
I never heard about : 1. James Cameron 2. Avatar - the movie 3. Anyone bragging this hard about a movie tie-in game.
Did anyone tell him that this is a game conference not Oscar Awards?
