Where do I begin? I remember really liking the show back in 2000 just because it was so totally irreverent and insane. I was intrigued when I heard about the game but did not want to shell out for it due to the less than stellar reviews it got back in 2007.
They say good things come to those who wait... so when I saw it used for $5 I figured it was time to give it a try. Let me say that was one of the best $5 I ever spent. Once I started playing, I just kept going until I was done - just had to see what came next. The insanity of the stunts is true to the show and even more crazy since you CAN kill all the stars in video-game land and then just try again.
There is a fairly good variety to the stunts with some getting a bit of reuse - like hamster-balls/ bumper-cars on a rooftop, grenade golf, golf carts, etc., but most of the stunts are pretty fun. The graphics and mo-cap are not awesome by any stretch, but a lot better than I expected. Sounds are limited and voice work a bit repetitive, but decent enough.
It's not all roses, though. As I said, there is enough variety/ insanity to the stunts that you just keep trying and trying til you ace them. Which brings me to the idea of consistency - some stunts are so easy you get full score on one try, others you can't even after 20 or more tries so difficulty was a little all over the board. This leads to control - the control scheme was pretty random and pretty much no explanation is given as to how to control any given stunt, which again leads to a lot of trial and error.
There was one stunt - the unicycle - that I still cannot get a handle on - I just can't do that one since the controls are pretty flaky on it.
The brutality of how the characters get mangled and smashed up is probably half the draw - face it - if you liked the show, you should like the game.
Overall, it is quick and throwaway - you don't have to invest much to wring out what it has to offer, but it is definitely fun while it lasts. If you liked the show and can find it cheap, it will be worth your time to give it a play through.
