Might not be the best fighting game but offers a lot to fans who are into Anime and Manga

User Rating: 8 | J-Stars Victory Vs+ VITA

If you were one of those people who would sit in front of their TV's or computers watching your favourite anime series or reading manga like One Piece, Naruto or even Dragon Ball, you would be surprised how good J-Stars Victory is for a fighting game. If you've heard or even read something from Weekly Shonen Jump which is one of the best-selling manga magazines as well as the longest-running since 1968.

For J-Stars Victory feels like a Super Smash Bros games but with Anime characters instead, not saying that's a bad thing it’s a good thing seeing most of our favourite characters in one game. This is more of a spin-off of our favourite shows but wrapped up in one game taking place in Jump World, an amalgamation of the different characters' universes. As the story begins each of the characters is preparing for a tournament held every 45 years in which heroes compete to determine who is the strongest of them all. The narrative does split between four different arcs, each focusing on a different character exploring Jump World, building a team to compete and working to achieve their own personal goals. The Dynamic Arc focuses on Luffy, Ace, and Seiya; the Hope Arc on Naruto, Yusuke, and Gon; the Investigation Arc on Toriko, Zebra, and Goku; and the Pursuit Arc on Ichigo, Oga, and Hiei.

The visuals for this are really impressive especially on the PS Vita might feel like a port from the PS3 version, the amount of detail that has gone through this is impressive including the amount of detail that's been put in for each of the characters. All characters have their own unique attacks and abilities you'll have a third person as back support if you want to help you. If you and your partner keep pulling off attacks and combos against your opponent you'll be able to pull off Ultimate Attacks by tapping or touching the screen on your Vita. You can pull off combos and moves using Square, Triangle and Circle; using the X to jump L button to dash and the R to guard the problem some people may have is the camera especially when it comes to target-locking on to your opponents either have to attack them or keep touching the Vita to target-lock. Each battle you'll need to fill at least two or three sections of the Win gauge at the top of the screen have to be filled; the gauge fills one section each time an opponent is defeated simple task yes but you'll have at least 300 seconds to defeat your opponent through the main Arc stories.

Completing all four Arc stories will take you a while to complete and collecting all of the J-Star cards which can give you certain Health, Defence or Strength skills in a card-deck board but you'll also have Arcade, Free Battles and a chance to play multiplayer matches if you know someone else who has this game. You can play against other players online through PSN and of course the option to save your own replays from each of battles you face. It might not be for everyone when it comes to fighting games in general but would say that it's worth checking out if you are an Anime or Manga fan especially if you like franchises like One Piece, Dragon Ball or even Hunter X Hunter there's actually a few easter eggs and references added in here and there.
