Orion software made fantastic games for the PC during it's years when it had a limited memory, 4 color GFX (16 if you use a composite monitor), and the worst sound system (a loud PC beeper, ugh!).
All these flaws were took advantage of with these games, especially Paratrooper, one the most popular DOS games around, PC Man, maybe the first PC port of pacman, and J Bird, the best version of Q-bert for the PC at the time, and in a way, still is.

J-bird for the PC is a magical experiance with it's pseudo 3-D graphics in 4 colors, fantastic gameplay, and nicely programed music for the very loud and deplorable PC speaker, it makes it sound like a masterpiece.

But, for the Commodore 64, you would expect a lot better. The Commodore 64 was the most advanced machine for it's time with 16 color graphics, SID 3 channel sound, etc, etc.

But, what do you get in the C64 version of the magnificent J-bird?

An utter travesty!

The graphics are OK, but nothing special about it, the sound is like nails on a chalkbord, tunes are okay, but when J-bird jumps, ugh!
Now, don't get me started about the gameplay, the gameplay advertises joystick control, but there is none! The keyboard control is horrible. you have to use certain keys that are impossible to remember! The bird, due to bad programming, sloooowly jumps! UGH!

If you own a c64, please get a cartridge of the original Q-bert!
Or at least get a DOS machine with the DOS version of this game!
Don't say you weren't warned!
