User Rating: 8 | Injustice: Gods Among Us PS3
What if, Superman snapped? What if Superman was a weapon of mass destruction? What if, Superman was a villain? What if, Superman killed? The Joker has taken his crimes to the next level, he turned Superman against his own kind and made him destroy Metropolis and made him kill Louis Lane. With Joker finally captured, Batman interrogates him, while doing this Superman barges in and grabs Joker by the neck. Superman is enraged for what Joker has done to him. Bruce tried to stop him but Superman's anger poisoned his mind. Superman raised his hand and hit Joker...right through the heart. With this, Superman became a dictator and realized his power and wanted to change this world. Seeing this Bruce had to stop Clark. This is all happening in an alternate universe. In another universe, The Justice League is trying to stop evil once again, The Joker has taken it too far, he was about to set off a nuclear bomb in the heart of Metropolis. Sound familiar? All the heroes have joined forces to try and stop Joker, when suddenly, all of them (well most of them) were teleported to another universe. The Superman dictator world. Batman recruits his new teammates and some unexpected allies and created the Insurgencey and fighting against the Regime. This is the storyline that you are playing in.
Now take a seat, relax and enjoy because I'm about to break this game down bit by bit discussing the goods and the bads!

Gameplay:

Good:

The fighting system reminds me of Mortal Kombat, while playing this I couldn't help but think: "Yup, it's Neatherealms alright." Being a huge Mortal Kombat fan I really enjoyed the system in this game, and Neatherealms took a huge step forwards with the whole environmental system. Characters can use the objects around them to their advantage and there are specific "types" of characters. Characters are either classified as a "gadgets" character or a "strength" character, both which use the environment differently. For example, Batman would use a car by leaping off of it to get behind his opponent and leaving a bomb behind to make it explode, this is an example of a "gadgets" character. A "strength" character for example would use the car by simply picking it up and throwing it at the opponent, lots of strategic uses for both types. The new "stage transition" is a cool twist. By pressing a certain button you can knock a player with a cool animation dealing some damage, into another area of the map with all new environmental hazards and objects to use. The super meter bar is back and its used to use a more stronger version of your special attack, just like in Mortal Kombat, or you can save up your meter to execute a powerful move on your opponent that does quite a bit of damage and the animation for these moves are amazing. There is also a new "Clash" system where you can wager your super meter bar. This forces players to use their super meter bar much more wisely and strategically. Combos are back and better than ever, so for all of you hardcore Mortal Kombat fans, don't you worry! The rounds aren't really "rounds" anymore, they're simply just two health bars that once one is depleted there is a short break where the winner says something clever and it's right back to the action. However the health from the first bar never carries onto the second health bar, so any supermoves used on the opponent when they have little health would be a waste, this leads to strategic super move uses. Injustice brought back the Challenge Tower, however in this game it's called: S.T.A.R Labs missions which is basically ten missions for each character (240 in total) and to completing them isn't enough you can get three stars for each mission (additional objectives.) Arcade Ladder is back but it's called "Battle Mode" and there's the classic ten-man match-up, but there are many different types of "Battle Modes" such as the Villain Only Mode where you fight villains only or Mirror Match Mode where you play as whoever you are fighting against. There are so many to choose some! New interesting concept of character special moves where each character has a certain ability to help them in battle. (Green arrow: special arrows, Superman: x2 damage etc etc.) A new ranking system is announced and it has some cool features such as opening new things to customize for your hero card which records your wins, losses etc. and the ranking system allows you to have armory keys which lets you go into the archives to unlock alternate costumes, or access keys so you can access things like concept arts and backgrounds and such.

Bad:

On the Battle Mode, the AI are extremely difficult to the point of frustration. Playing it on Medium will have the AI spamming moves and hitting you before you even get up, doing extremely long combos. Playing Classic Battle Mode on Medium felt like playing ladder mode in Mortal Kombat on Hard difficulty, especially the last fight with Superman, he does double damage and when he uses his special ability which allows him to have x2 damage so hes hitting you with x4 damage, and when he gets you in his super move it does up to 51% damage!! Then I move to Easy difficulty and it is NO challenge, the opponent will just stand there the whole match, difficulty balancing needs to be fixed. S.T.A.R Labs missions are easy but if your going for three stars expect some rage quits and frustrations, additional objectives take a long time to complete. Not really a bad thing but I must point it out: Deathstroke has about three projectile moves dealing high damage, heads up for you new players. Speaking of which, this game would be very difficult for newbies with very little/confusing instructions. Ending for some characters in the Battle Mode can be lame and anti-climatic. Now I understand Angry Joe has gone over this but this is something that must be pointed out and completely agree with him. NO TAG TEAMS, this game is perfect for a tag team mode! Nothing! Half the roster is from Batman which blows, I wish there was a bigger variety in characters, even the DLC that came out was Batgirl, another Batman character, isn't there enough?
Story:

Good:

Strong storyline following the comic books, story had me wanting to know what would happen next, and the best thing is that all the fights that take place make sense, there aren't any filler fights that have nothing to do with the story line like if Green Arrow accidentally bumps into Cyborg and it's ROUND 1. All the fights have meaning to them and are fun to play. Cool idea about the whole parallel universe, this allowed the Story Mode to have the same characters fighting each other: (ex. Batman vs Batman, Cyborg vs, Cyborg etc.) Ending to the story line is very awesome and well scripted and the cut scenes in the games are probably the best cut scenes I've seen in a while! Great graphics, great lines (Green Arrows lines are the best!!) and great choreography with the fight scenes within the cut scenes. An excellent storyline that will have you wanting more.

Bad:

As much as the parallel universe idea is cool it can get confusing...so Superman killed Joker but suddenly Joker was detonating a bomb in another Metropolis? Then Batman and Joker and everyone else got teleported?...except for Superman, Flash and Cyborg? It was really confusing at first but the story sort of speaks for itself. If your in for just the gameplay, you won't get a lot out of the story. The fact that you play as Batman twice is a bit of a drag. First at the beginning, then towards the end. Sure it's two different Batman's from different universe but I mean, couldn't they have added a different character? I liked how you were able to play as The Flash as a bad guy (although he kind of "quit" his job) but it would've been neat to be able to play as Shazam as a bad guy, or Raven maybe? I love it when games let's you play from the bad person's perspective.

Mulitiplayer:

Good:

LAG IS GONE!! Yes I had to bring it up, there is like a tiny bit of lag but it's unnoticeable, compared to the multiplayer lag in Mortal Kombat, Injustice multiplayer feels like your playing a simple match in Battle Mode or with your friend! Thank you Neatherealms! King Of The Hill is back and it's better than ever, KOTH let's you sit in a room and watch other people play and when the time comes, it's your turn to fight the king...or become one! New mode called Survivor which is fun to play and makes KOTH a lot easier for new players. The kings health bar carries into the next fight with a little regeneration so this allows other players to have a chance to be king and not have one hardcore player just defending his throne all the time.

Bad:

Hard for new players. I've heard stories of getting your stats, XP, costumes and whatnot wiped out by playing multiplayer. It has yet happened to me but I hear it is a problem but very easy to fix, hopefully Neatherealms will patch this up.

DLC:
I thought I might add this in:

The DLC characters that have been out are: Lobo, Batgirl and Scorpion, General Zod has been told to be a DLC as seen on Conan, and there are to be four MORE characters in Injustice in the future. Free compatibility pack with each update.

Well that's my review on Injustice, This is an awesome game and if your into fighting games, this is the game for you! It's an awesome game with a solid fighting mechanic and a solid storyline. 8/10 Neatherealms! You've done it again!
