There are warts, but this is still a fun game after so many years.

User Rating: 8 | inFamous PS3

Pros:

  • Traversal is fast, fluid and unique.
  • The open world itself is populated and unique, to where it's worth traveling through (and worth forgiving for the lack of a fast travel mechanic).
  • Combat is deep and fast-paced, with plenty of opportunities for upgrades.
  • The moral system is pretty interesting and offers a lot of uniqueness in the overall gameplay.
  • Tons of replayability with many collectibles and side missions, and the Karma system begs for repeat playthroughs.
  • Dark and engaging story with plenty of memorable characters.
  • Solid visuals for a 2009 PlayStation 3 game.
  • Having several cutscenes presented in a comic book style is a great aesthetic choice.

Cons:

  • Does the classic “throw a bunch of enemies at you and call it difficulty” thing that I hate.
  • Platforming feels a bit awkward at points.
  • Prone to more glitches than I expected, and the frame rate really chugs at times.

Consensus: So begins my journey through one of the PlayStation 3's most popular franchises (that may at the same time be underrated), "inFAMOUS." The original game remains a great play even after thirteen years and noticeable warts as a result of age. Is it the most incredible, must-play, essential PlayStation 3 game after so many years? No, not really. But at the end of the day, it's a very fun open-world game with great combat and traversal, as well as a unique Karma system that set it apart from other games of its time. For pure chaotic fun, make it a point to give "inFAMOUS" a try if you haven't already.
