Blast shard sensing power?

I've finally completed the requirement of 60 side missions, and I purchased the blast shard sense power. Unfortunately it doesn't do a great job explaining what it does exactly, or rather, doesn't seem to be doing what it says it does. Often times I will be roaming around clicking L3, and no blast shards come up on the map. Can anyone tell me the real purpose of this power? From the explanation, I thought it was gonna be like finding dead drops from the first inFAMOUS game, where it would point you in the right direction to the closest one. I guess I was wrong.

What happens when you have the power is that the closest blast shard will show up on your minimap, on the edge. So just keep following that one dot until you get it, rinse and repeat. So it actually does exactly what it claims to do, points you in the direction of the closest blast shard.

The blast shards that are off the minimap will show as a blue dot on the side, like the white quest markers, and waypoints. There are two problems with it though. The first is that the blue dot is the lowest priority, so if you have 2-3 things at the edge of your map, and the blast shard is in the same direction, it will be under the other icon. The second is that if you have a runner with a shard, it counts when it's on the minimap, so you won't get another blue dot if one of them is showing up.

There are a total of 305 blast shards scattered around the map, if you have collected them all (Check for the trophy "Just One More") then the power is useless as you have no blast shards to collect so none will show on the map anymore.

The power works great, with the exception that it will point you to bombs, stolen shards, and often you can't see the blue dot because of other missions and what not obscuring it. that is to say they overlay it.

The dot will show on the very edge of your map unless it is within the range of your position on thenmini map.

It does not direct you to shard carriers or bombs due to the fact those two types of shards have their own individual icons and do not count towards the 305 total. They only apply to gaining more power nodes. If you max out nodes by finding blast shards and diffusing bomb & stealing them then your total counter will appear when you find one of the 305.
