While Ico may have roots in classic adventure games, it strips away several conventions of the genre and becomes a game unlike any other. GameSpot's Miguel Lopez gives a full run-down on this game that defies description.
Ico is one of the many games that made a PS2 every bit worth owning. Such golden days in gaming are damn near gone.
i just got the HD... awesome.... :)
I am just replaying Ico on the HD Remastered, and now I remember why I loved the game so much! It is beautiful, calming, and at the same time stressful. I love this game and I can't wait for The Last Guardian!
so looking forward to the last guardian
Very good review but its AAA.
Will be checking out the HD as i missed the original, cant think why as my gaming nerdary stems back way before. Also to see why this is PETE DORRS all time favourite game....legend..
To keep it real SotC and ICO were great but tLG idk. It doesn't appeal to me as much. Maybe because the animal looks stupid.
Really fantastic game. A spiritual successor is coming out for the PS3 this year.
@calvinsora Thanks for the info :)
@Shadowhawk128x: In terms of development, it's from the same people. In terms of story, SotC is supposedly a prequel to Ico, though telling you why would be a spoiler ;)
Does this game have any relation to Shadows of Collosus?
Kids should play more games of these kinds. not mindlessly blast nazi zombie's heads or pick up hookers from flashy cars.
must.......have........ICO!!!!
This is such a good game. I used to watch this game when I was a kid. And now I can play it whenever. :)
So cool !
I played the shadow of colossus demo on a jampack on ps2, but never the full game. I never played Ico either and I'm looking forward to the double pack. Last guardian looks good too.
Never played this game but it looks cool.It will be great when they release it in the ps3,even greater with shadow of the colossus.
I never owned a PS2 so words can't describe how pumped I am for the Ico/SotC HD bundle!
Cool, looking forward to the HD version on PS3.
@luke1889: Yeah, I'll probably end up doing that too. Maybe if I sank myself more into the experience. Guess only time will tell.
@calvinsora I'm the same. I recall playing this game on the PS2 way back when and I honestly couldn't see the attraction. I found it boring, sluggish and such a chore to play. That freaking girl was such a hinderance and the combat was awful. =/ However, all these years later, I might just pick up the Ico / Shadow of the Colossus PS3 collection and see if time has changed my opinion of this.
I'm amazed... :o
I have a somewhat hard time understanding why this game is so revered by most people. But that's just me.
He might do good written reviews but he cant talk very well, he keeps saying, UHH.. and stutters all the time, or atleast at the start.
The reviewer (Miguel Lopez) is a good games journalist, and he has a lot of well written old reviews (2000-2002) on Gamespot. I believe he works at Gamespy now. This was a very good review of his, for a terrific game.
this game has way better graphics than...well... a lot of games... 2001 lol
This review was posted just a couple of weeks after 9-11. Must have been surreal, reviewing such a beautiful game at that time.
ico shadow of the colossus the last guardian any of their new games. the only games ill ever need.
I missed this game really great
8.5? PAH! Should've been a 10 if only for the save music
Absolute gem of a game
@joessj5 otherway around, a while back the devs stated that Ico is a descendent of the character from SotC
ay people, i thnk this s a prelude to Shadow of the Colosus. i mean the setting and story.
leehaoyong, I believe the point he's trying to make is, don't expect the combat of the game to be similar or as in depth as those games, remember this was 2001 when those games were all the buzz at the time. Also, iirc he didn't make that comment in his written review, don't judge a games reviewer until you read many of their reviews.
Solid review, but it seems like the reviewer doesn't care at all.
Great game, brings back wonderful memories.....but this reviewer is just plain horrible. Monotonous voice, and he seems barely excited. The nail in the coffin is the part when he compares ICO to Devil May Cry. What the !@#$ Making such a statement just proves you have no idea what kind of a game you are assessing here.
oh no its the retard
don't call him KING...call him king23...he doesn't deserve to be called KING because of his trash that he has to bring to us...
Well king you are entitled to your own opinion...
@king23..if u dint care bout this game then why did u bother to come all the way here to post that.
One of my all time favorites, a truly brilliant game.
kool game ....from an artistic point of veiw
I never cared much for this game.
