How to pick up downed person as human shield?

Every time I press space on a downed person, it executes them. Is there a way to pick them up as a shield instead?

I don't think you can do it to people that are downed. All I remember about the human shield mechanic was it sucking and getting in the way at the worst times, so I never really went out of my way to use it.

It doesn't seem very useful considering most gun enemies fire multiple bullets rapidly.

It works for a few guns in the game. I think the silenced pistol, magnum and double barrel, and maybe the SMGs, not sure.

It's a neat mechanic but I haven't tried developing any real strategies around it yet. It does no good against melee weapons, shotgun blasts or more than a couple rounds from any other gun.

I think it might be useful if you're going for speed or big combos and you're forced to expose yourself to possible gunfire for longer than you'd like. Other than that it just kind of gets in the way during normal play.

it has to be a one handed gun, pistols, smgs i think, double barrel shotgun for sure

it's pretty useless
