In 1993, after Nintendo and Phillips failed to make a CD add-on to the Super Nintendo, Phillips made the add-on a seperate console, and the two companies agreed to give Phillips the rights to make 4 games based on Link and Mario games. This game, Hotel Mario, is one of the most broken games ever made. It has the same thing WOG and TFOE do; make crappy cutscenes.

In this game, Bowser and his kooplings have kidnapped the princess again. Mario and Luigi must save her by going through the seven hotels and close the doors of each hotel. This seems kind of fun, but in reality, it's just so boring. Plus, the controls are broken. Jumping is off, enemies are not very hard to beat, and after a while, the game gets extremely boring.

Graphically, the game looks extremely blurry and squinty, and because Phillips made the game and didn't really put any effort into the graphics, the visuals are bland. The cutscenes look terrible, but at least they look better then The Faces of Evil's graphics, I'll give credit to that.

The music is pretty good; decent at best. The opening music sounds awesome, and is the best song of the game. The voicing sounds amazing, but the acting really sucks. The storyline lacks a lot of detail, and it seems Phillips ripped the game's story off of previous Mario installments such as Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. Therefore, unless you're playing an enchanced handheld remake, seeing pretty much the same plot again is very annoying.

What Phillips has done to Mario is just too terrible to explain. The game isn't the worst game of the year, but is certaintly the worst Mario game ever made. With poor animated cutscenes, terrible acting and storyline, bland graphics, and clunky controls, Hotel Mario is easily one of the most broken games ever made. While the music is good, you're not going to have a whole lot of fun with Hotel Mario.
