Hot Wheels Turbo Racing has all the makings of a solid, standard racing title, but not much else.

User Rating: 7.5 | Hot Wheels Turbo Racing N64
You might be thinking that a game based on something like Hot wheels couldn't possibly be anything more than shovelware. Well, the license is actually put to good use here. This is a fun racer, but other than the vehicles nothing really stands out. For N64 the graphics are fine. The cars don't look bad at all, and the tracks are all well made. They aren't going to be as recognizable as, say, a Mario Kart course, but they aren't bland in the slightest. Most tracks have multiple paths which makes it fun to re-race once in a while. One key feature of racing is doing tricks. This feels somewhat gimmicky, but proves to be entertaining. You can either just pick a course, race in a tournament or even free drive and practice. The Menus are somewhat complicated, but not too hard to get accustomed to. The game controls good, if a little clumsy. The soundtrack is surprisingly good and the sound effects aren't half-bad either.

So, if you were/are a Hot Wheels kid or a racing fan looking for something new, this is worth a purchase. If you hate a game that's somewhat generic, try it first.
