This game was on my radar long ago, but had since forgotten it, discarded the idea of playing it. Now that I watch this, I think I might actually play it, if only because FPS campaigns can blazed through in a couple of days and I've yet to play one where we shoot up koreans, save Crysis -- amusingly, Crytek is making the sequel to this. I just realized though... this is yet another game depicting war on american soil. I've been playing Crysis 2, which has just that. Modern Warfare 2 introduced it in that series, 3 continues and Battlefield Bad Company 2 also had it which, I think, BF3 also continues. Not sure, I forget. Then there's the RTS, World in Conflict (not to mention Red Alert, which doesn't count as its a classic series that has a plot long predating this recent trend).

On a final, I find it part sad, part amusing, that some of you consider this a realistic premise. You know too little of geopolitics if you do. If it were China, then maybe. Not entirely, but definitely more so. If anything, considering how oddly they (NATO & UN) have allowed that country and its regime to grotesquely expand borders (Tibet) and its economic and military might (nigh slave labor by hundreds of millions).

Best Korea, though? Pff. It's really a miniature version of the former Soviet Union. That's the best way to describe it in a sentence, presuming you know enough about the latter. Honestly, I'm not sure they could beat their southern neighbors even in a 1 vs 1 showdown, much less annex them, Japan, others, and invade North America. Laughable.

The game on Onlive is only $19.99 but they had a special offer to get your first game for $1.00

@Renoo27 I was freaked by the execution scene, too. I get that they're trying to get an important message across, and I totally respect them for that. It's just scary sometimes, way worse and more realistic than any gory movie out there nowadays.

@antidon2000 I agree. Once I saw that, I lost all feeling for playing the game. The premise is also difficult to swallow. They're a tiny place compared to us and China, though their military is scary, so them even taking over South Korea would be hard since they probably won't be supported on the effort.

The premise is interesting but poorly executed. Not trash, but certainly not great either.

Got this for $7 on steam an it's still not worth it. I'm 2 hours in and never plan on going back. So glad I was able to pick this up at the cost of a rental because it's pretty bad. Ok if I know me I will chip away at it until I beat it but that's just me. I absolutely do not recommend this game to anyone. UPDATE: Beat this game in literally under 4 hours

Waste of $39.99. Thank god it was only that much and not $60. Multiplayer sucks. Campaign sucks. Graphics suck. Mechanics suck.

My vote for the worst game of 2011, it's truly that bad....how it ever made it past the testers with so many obvious flaws is boggling....?

i really like this game... just wish it was longer and had more of an open worldand light rpg elements could have made this the shooter of the year 2010 for me (40% battlefield, 20% fallout 3,10 rage 30% half life 2 would work :P)

just borrowed it from my cousin and played through it. "While it is fun, it's way too short, I beat the game in like 3 hours. AS for the story, I both like it and hated it at times. I like how real it seemed to be, but not being able to pop a cap in the heads of the gunmen who killed the two people in front of there little kid was annoying. Also, it was too easy at parts., with a lot of the guns locking on to people automatically when you aimed down the sights. But over all I did like it better then Call of Duty Black ops or Modern Warfare 2. I just wish it was a few hours longer.

Yeah the review is about right I found the game quite unforgiving like you die easy I had to repeat quite a lot so yeah that would have made the game over quicker if it wasn't that hard. But I did enjoy the ride reminded me of a nazi occupation.I had the game freeze about 6 times now I don't know if it's my battle harden ps3 or the disc but that was a let down, anyone else have this problem????.The multiplayer is quite good I find the guns quite stable where black ops they move around more when you fire.Worth getting on special for your collection.

@ Devin-B: In all actuality, this isn't plausible at all. If North Korea attempted to invade America they'd get the crap beat out of them. Some experts say that if N. Korea was to invade just S. Korea, they'd be pretty much defeated before we even mobilize our troops to get there. If I'm not mistaken, South Korea's military budget is bigger than North Korea's entire budget actually. If they had countries like China and Japan on their side like in the game, then it might be plausible. Although even then it would be very hard to come up with enough troops to occupy America.

This game really intrigued me when it first appeared. Then there were some negative things about it. So I waited until it was very cheap, like 10 Dollars, and now I'll play through it for the story and perhaps an experience.

The scary thing is that the story is absolutely plausible. We aren't far from Korean War II.

The campaign was like 4 hours and the multiplayer was way inferior to BFBC2 or even CoD. But it should have at least gotten an 8. It was emotionally wrenching...

Ive just started chapter 3 and im enjoying it so far... but as soon as I finish it, it is going back on ebay, I'm not going to bother with the multiplayer when I already have BBC2

I didn't really like it. The singleplayer was too short, and multiplayer felt unbalanced, and then the game is just another FPS, and has no originality outside of its story.

Defy_The_Fallen
Defy_The_Fallen

you had two bad points mentioned in this review which was the shortness of the campaign and that it borrowed other parts for the multiplayer. How does that make it worthy of a 7? C'mon guys. I'd give it an 8.

playing the multiplayer demo right now. enjoying it quite a bit. don't know if it's cuz i am sick of reach or cuz im kicking a$$ in it big time. either way id recommend trying the demo out.

only played the demo, multiplayer. gotta say it didn't sell. looks good, but...just did'nt work. the guns were ridiculous. sometimes i'd get kills out of nowhere with the pistol. other times i'd shoot someone 3 times square in the chest and they'd survive. so. i quit. looks good. but not for me.

The single player portion of this game is one of the darkest settings I ended inmmersed in. If it managed to do that, yes it's good in almost every aspect. From the execution to the unflinching and cruel representation. Worth checking out if it sounds that good to you.

The Game animation was stiff and plastic looking I thought! I liked the storyline tho, It was like red dawn the movie! I think if THQ does some modification to there Gaming Engine and fix those issues this game will be one to compete with! I think this Game has potential!

@H0BBUS: Yeah. That's why this game's so good. It doesn't hold back. It has a message to put across, and it needs to be as brutal as possible to get it across. And that message is "WAKE THE F*** UP! There are people dying!" Homefront isn't just a game, it's an experience.
