Not for the casual RPG gamer

PROS: battle system, synthesis/upgrade system, trophy gathering
CONS: backtracking/soul searching, too many characters/combos
After reading a review from the import version, i decided to play this on HARD...wow, what can i say... not since my days of running home after school to play FF on my friends nintendo, yes, i know, it was a while ago..., have i been this challenged in a game... whether thats good or bad i'm still not sure yet, as this game looks like it's going to be tough to beat.
the general reviews are correct, it's not very user friendly when it comes to the menus -- the normal +/- are there but you have to hit the square just to see them, it's clunky and slows down your game play and there's no way around that
BIGGEST GRIPE = forced backtracking though cleared "worlds" means i have to run around, with unavoidable battles, just to find more souls, BUT, and here it is, the biggest reward for this??? reduced EXP/G/EnemyPoints... y? its bad enough the game FORCES me to waste my time, y then take valuable enemypoints and such away from me? *i say unavoidable, but thats only 90% true... there's a very expensive potion to help avoid encounters that is about 95% useless as it only gives you about an extra min to walk around, and costs 10k!!!
STILL --- i am enjoying the game, a lot, it's very addictive despite all the things that drive you crazy...like the fact that some characters join my party ahead of my lead characters level, and some join from WAY behind...
BOTTOM LINE- if you are picky about little things, or if you dont think putting the time in is for you, stay away... if you like little twists on the old school game, and like being challenged and having to work for it...then get this game... i just cant stop playing so far even though i know there are valid flaws throughout...soo close to being a gem...peace love and gaming all!
