American parents are the most idiotic beings I have seen. They BOUGHT those ultra violent games for their kids and then they blame the developers??? It's the parents' fault for all the drama. End of story.

I'm a parent and my two boys, the oldest one is 37 years old and the other is 27. They've been playing video games since kids, the oldest one played with the first version of Nintendo with Donkey Kong and Mario Bros, some kind of violent if I may but I was always playing with them, watching them and explain them the motive of the game and always show them that it was just for fun. We always have a video game system and since Playstation came out, we've been using it. None of my kids are violent or have any kind of weapon. On the contrary, they have a big heart, always helping others in need. You need to watch your kids an explain that it's just a game and not real life. Show them love and compassion and caring, hug them, kiss them and tell them you love them. It's like watching the old and very funny Tom and Jerry cartoons, or Bugs Bunny, the old ones, very funny. I still watch them when I can and I'm 60 years old. Even in an action movie funny things happen and not everybody sees them. Learn, learn and teach, teach!!!!

So 89% of parents believe violent video games are a problem yet most of those same 89% won't be parents and monitor the games their children are playing. Take responsibility for the role you play in buying and allowing play games that may not be suitable for children of younger ages. I understand completely the difficulties that exist to full shelter your kids from violent forms of media but the ESRB ratings are their for a reason. Know the maturity of your child and let them play games based on that.

I'm a father myself, and have no illusions as to the suitability of game for my daughter. simply pointing a finger at an entertainment medium and saying "that's the problem", is just as much of a problem as allowing a child to be exposed to something that is inappropriate. Parents, check the rating. Check the dam game it's self! if it's rated over the age of your child, it Illegal that they play it!!! If you are THAT out of touch with your child to know what could trouble or upset them in any way, again, you are failing as a parent. Know the games, KNOW YOUR KIDS! If you're not able pay a first hand interest into you're child's life, their entertainment and their perceptions and feelings, then you really, REALLY should not have wasted the time, money and energy creating them.

People who have children probably never cared for anything in life as much as they now care for their children.  So, it makes sense they are going to worry, be paranoid, etc., and of course other people/groups will take advantage of that, just as I said in another comment on the same topic.

And as I said in that other comment, it's just a cycle, same old story.  If we looked back at when Rock n Roll started, 89% of parents probably thought it was a dangerous influence.  When video games started to become popular, 89% of parents probably didn't like that.  I'll bet you that when some US states decided to integrate blacks into white schools, 89% (or maybe more) of those parents probably thought that was a terrible thing and a major problem.

Special news report, 89% of parents will tell you Santa Claus is real without knowing exactly why they are doing it. Come on, seriously, we all know that our parents don't know anything.

if parents want to shield their kids from violence then close them off from the world and never let them out of the house...which basically means zero exposure to anything meaningful in life as a result.

Yep, and 89% of parents are to blame for letting their kids play violent games when they aren't old enough, mature enough or have mental problems as it is, or whatever other circumstance. Bottom line, parents have complete control over the situation and need to do the best they can with it. It's their fault if they don't.

America, if you think our problems are bad, wait till you see our solutions!!!

Stupid people stop blaming the games!! It's your responsibility as a parent to monitor what your children watch and play, you'd rather blame the video games because you suck as a parent!!

This must mean that 89% of parents allow their children to play mature rated games, otherwise the system structure that is already in place (I still get carded) has somehow been evaded 89% of the time.

The solution is to not let your kids play them.  If there's already a solution to the problem then is it really a problem?  Is that some sort of paradox?  Is this a rhetorical question?

Ok parents, if it makes you feel like a better parent to discredit anyone's sense of rationality and assert that playing a violent game unlocks some sort of psychopathic rage within them, then I say go for it.  It's not like such mental conditions existed prior to violent movies and games.  We all know Wolfenstein 3D caused the holocaust.

By creating a situation in which violent games will no longer exist, you will not have to waste any time being a parent.

That 89% are same the ones that let their kids have violent games.

Here is a neat idea, be a F!N parent and stop buying your kids S___ you don't want them playing!!! I am a parent, I play games; I don't let my kids play anything I don't think they are old enough to handle. Period.

eh I think violence in Video games is just as easily kept away with good parenting as any other media with inappropriate stuff... I mean media is pumped full of violence it's not just video games....Video Games are just the new Rock n Roll so people want to hate it.... maybe parents should be better at their job instead of blaming media in general... I highly doubt Violent Hitman commercials were playing on Nick or Cartoon Network... just like Black Hawk Down commercials didn't play on those channels... watch your kids if you care so much about these things... they certainly can't walk into a store and buy these games

Violent video games are not the problem. Parents with lack of responsibility are. People need to be more concerned about parents that have no personal accountability for themselves and the choices they make for their kids.

yet they do nothing about it. they go "OH NO my kid is going to play violent video games". well do not let it then! when Einstein said that human stupidity was infinite i guess he was right.

Imagine the scene

parent- oh no! my kid is playing a violent video game.....which i bought for it! its all fault of these evil game developers!
