That kind of attitude - only consoles deserve a disc - has me worried that gameplay will cater solely to the console crowd. Controls will probably be stupidly broken too. I miss the days of when Hitman was a PC-only game

Only the first Hitman game was PC only, and it was the worst one. Your complaint seems silly.

I've played every other Hitman game except the first one on a PS2, and it's fine. I don't feel much of a difference when I played them on a PC.

In fact, Blood Money stands out to me as one of the few games that actually feels easier to play on a controller.

The fact that consoles were included in development hasn't stopped each Hitman game from improving on its predecessor.

I remember reading that Square Enix mentioned they have no plans whatsoever to release the retail disc of Absolution for PC in North America.

Isn't really that surprising though since titles like Silent Hill Homecoming and Resident Evil: ORC was absent for the physical retail release in NA. Most likely to save physical distribution cost and maximize profit due to it's more limited audience on the specific platform.

Well if that's true then that's BS. I'll like to read that link if you can find it. So now they are going to pull the download only crap on PC gamers to save cash for distributing while still selling games at exaggerated prices. If they are thinking they will stop piracy good luck with that. I'm starting to think this is one of the main reasons piracy is rising. They are really hurting the legit consumers. You must damn near get hacks to play the damn games. Especially if you are gaming on a laptop and won't always have internet connections. Guess I'll have to get this on consoles for a physical copy then.

To be honest ... I welcome it.

We live in 2012, it's good that we phase out physical data carriers like DvDs and stuff.

    Something tapped on my shoulder...

It was worldwide availability to high-quality Internet, taken as granted by many, but not given to most.

Yeah... I don't think the people who are downloading the game illegally are protesting the fact that the game is only available via download. That doesn't make any sense.

And you don't always need an internet connection to play the game. You just need one to download the game, and after that you can run it via Steam's offline mode.

What the hell are you talking about? I never said they were "protesting" anything. I was basically saying that this isn't the way to fight piracy. Since more and more devs have started the download only method + DRM. Why not just release a physical copy of the game since we will have to authenticate it via the internet anyways. Serial Numbers only are a thing of the past as we know. It's not like we are getting a huge deal for downloading. I also was saying that the price is still pretty high for the download only title. No publishing, no middle man so to speak. Just straight from the servers to your PC.

I know how steam works btw.

You never mentioned DRM anywhere in your post.
You said that you think online only is one of the reasons piracy is rising.
    I think probably not.

You can get huge deals for downloading. I preordered this game for $33.75 off of GMG.

Steam is a middleman, and gets a cut of the profits just like any retail store would, so your "no middleman" statement is inaccurate (though there are no costs for printing and shipping the games).

If you already knew that Steam doesn't require an internet connection to play games then why did you say "especially if you are gaming on a laptop and won't always have internet connections," anyway?

I'm all for digital version of games, simply because I don't believe game stores deserve to take $15-20 cut from the $60 for simply distributing and putting the game on the shelves.

    LOL.

There's something I don't really get about this whole buisness model.

I live in france nowadays , so I have a couple of choice in regards to buying Hitman Absolition.

1 - But a physical copy in any regular store for about 40 Euros.
2 - But a digital copy from steam for a reduced price of 45 Euros (Before it was 50 Euros).
3 - Buy a boxed copy from Amazon.uk for about 38 Euros including shipping and taxes with the Sniper Challenge and A Costume Pack.

The big questions is thus... Why would anyone pay more for digital only content ? ... Makes no sense whatsoever. Honestly, I would have gladly payed 30 or 35 euros for the digital only game as i'm pretty broke, but offering digital only at a higher pricetag... Meh...

So by that logic there should be NO stores anywhere selling ANYTHING.

The arguments are still stupid, physical is a preference some people prefer over digital. It's that simple. I prefer going to Walmart on release day and buying my copy direct. I just do. If I can't, I won't cry I'll still buy the game. Maybe it's the feeling of opening something new... Hell Diablo 3 was a great example of a physical copy, the game sucked imo, but the box art was great, it came with a few goodies inside.... I wish more games would do that.

    True...

And employees aren't working for free either (among several other things that should be taking into account).

I don't think that the consumer gets an huge deal considering what they are saving when just releasing digital copies.....

And i do prefer physical copies myself(at least of stuff i'm paying .LOL ).

Yes the year is 2012 but there are many people out there in the world [including yours truly] who don't have access to high speed broadband. I generally will buy some pre-paid for a laptop but it is damn expensive. [$100 = around 6Gb], I generally use this for updates, windows, virus definitions, graphics drivers etc.

Downloading a whole game [unless it's quite small] - just not going to happen.

For me it's about a collection and having it on view in my house, I'll never ever download a full game till I die.

What? When the hell did Futureshop feel like telling me this? Just a week ago, I got an email telling me to sit tight and wait for my copy of Hitman to be released on the 20th.
