Too many people are making this a zero-sum game.

Absent some corporate sales projections its really hard for us to do anything other than subjectively determine if the game was a win or lose. What will likely be a factor in decreased sales is that gamers have spread the word about some of the features in this game to their friends. I love this game, but for what its worth right now I just tell my friends its a great rental.

Contracts mode is really fun, but I think we need DLC or free maps (whichever) that made some of the more nuanced environs... Right now without looking I will wager that 90% of the contracts will be in one of the Chinatown variants, Gun Shop, Upper Floors, or Vixen Club. That is not to say people are not using the more cloak-and-dagger required maps, its just that people enjoy the open ended ones more.

As for the main game, it too is really fun the first two go throughs. But right now I find myself wishing we could select loadouts for each campaign mission a la Blood Money. I understand the first playthrough you are given the weapons that 47 has access to in the narrative, but once we have beaten the game why not allow for custom loadouts in Mission Select.

I really hope the game does not fail because it can only mean Hitman is scraped or they realize another super dumbed down one to achieve wider appeal. But at the same time I think consumers need to let the developers feel the heat, if they are genuinely unimpressed with certain parts of the game.

I will never understand why people think number of sales = quality of product when that is obviously not the case. I mean just look at cod for example its a mediocre shooter yet it manages to sell millions every year.

that would be true if hitman was a huge name like COD. hitman is closer to a cult game and selling over a million is damn good.

CoD games are very, very well made in their own merit.

Yes, they are quite alike, but if BLOPS 2 was your first CoD, it is a super polished and well made game.

They are great at what they do, providing a simple game thats easy, and fun to get into. People say "blah blah every year" but Treyarch works on each game for 2 years, as does Infinity Ward.

exactly. I love the COD games and I think the only thing that really sucks is that the community is full of douchebags and dicks that make the MP just not fun to play.

It sold more on PS3. Nice. After all, PS3 is the place to be.

Also why is everyone forgetting the PC sales? I'm sure tons of people bought it on Steam. That would means Absolution is starting to move towards the 1.5 million mark or it maybe it has already passed it.

This whole insulting debate over an unreliable website. Wait for a more reliable source. Then continuing insulting each other.

That said, my personal opinion on this game......it sucks. It's a good game, but this is the worst Hitman game...Maybe it's better than Silent Assassin, but I'd have to play it again to be sure. I got salty doing the Lenny mission. Having to hear the same conversation over and over and over because of this horrible checkpoint system just pissed me off. That and I'm tired of constantly hiding behind stuff like this is Splinter Cell.

6 years waiting after having one of the best video game experiences ever and I'm highly disappointed. Maybe Contracts will make me like it better and how they fix the disguises. But right now, I just feel like completeing the game "whenever." Story's not even as good as people tried to make it. Blood Money's was honestly more interesting than this.

one million in one week. wow. what a horrible game.

Worldwide on 2 systems. It really isn't that much.

you're clueless and don't really know how sales work. If it doesn't sell 6 million on the first day like COD it sold poorly.1 million first week for Hitman is exceptionally good, even if those aren't real numbers if it did that it's a franchise record.

It is competing against the release of Blops 2 and Far Cry 3, so not too bad imo.

Considering Squeenix's decision to quickly drop the online pass in favor of not splitting the community, I believe it's a safe assumption that the sales projections were not very high. Plus, Christmas is just around the corner so they will certainly shift a few more units in NA for the next month or so. New Years sales across the world will also help.

The game did quite well for what was once a niche franchise. Of course, I'm sure their marketing department is patting themselves on the back right now. All that controversy certainly turned some heads prior to release. The debacle earlier this morning no doubt speaks of their success and they will certiainly do it again.
