High School Musical: Making the Cut will only appeal to the films die hard fans.

User Rating: 3 | Disney High School Musical: Makin' the Cut DS
You would think Disney would not need to make anymore money from the first High School musical movie. Needless to say, we are all wrong, as it seems disney will push the film to the end with any type of product, as show with High School musical: Makin' the Cut for the DS. (Bad Grammer in the title, great way to teach the children)

The Game has four modes, being Story, Quick Play, Video Maker and Multiplayer. In the Story Mode you have to sing and Dance your way up through competitions, starting with Local and working your way up to the Regionals. These Competitions represent the difficulty, and will progressively get harder as you go along.

The Gameplay itself is simple and very repetitive. You must touch a forming circle with the Stylus before it is totally formed. There are also mini 'games' in the middle of this, such as Drawing a number or letter on pad, or placing a basketball into a net. These are also very repetitive, and pointless to the actual rhythm process. To say that though would be wrong, as their is no Rhythm or beat. Hitting the circles is random, the only way it flows with the music is you have to hit them faster if the music speeds up. Its the Same with Singing and Dancing, only with Singing you can switch bewteen instruments being played, with more bonus points depending on which you choose.

The Graphics are sufficient, the backgrounds being the best part. The Characters however look a bit blocky and too skinny, and needed more work. An annoying thing about the game is whenever you make a mistake, the characters will always fall over. This is also when Singing. Why do the characters fall over when they make a singing mistake? Confused me for a while. The Images on top are ignored though as you have to focus on the bottom screen to play, and this at times is rather bland.

The Sound is probably the games best attribute. For some reason however, Disney has to get cover songs for the game. This takes away some of the Games links to the film, and makes it seem less connected. Some of the Covers, are in fairness better then the orignals, but some are not very good at all. Also, the Songs are just played, and have no interaction with the game. So if you mess up in the Singing Game, the song will carry on normally, you will just fall over.

The Game isn't worth it's £30 asking price, but, if found for a bargain, might make a nice present for a young child.
