High speed, Heated action, Heavy fun. A great arcade racer.

User Rating: 9 | Hi-Octane PC
High Octane is one of my favourite racers for the PC. Set in a futuristic setting you pilot one of several hover crafts in high speed combat races.

What's good:
Control. The control for the races were very tight and easy to manage.
Vehicles. You had a good selection to pick from right from the get go.
Tracks. No track editor, but you were supplied with a heavy selection of tracks, also right from the start. The tracks were well varied in terms of design and environment, and each has special short cuts and secrets for you to use to gain a few extra precious seconds.
Sound & Graphics. The look and sound of this game was great. Although they don't hold up well to today's standards, back then they were fantastic.

What could have been better:
Although most of the vehicles were pretty balanced, some of them I found kind of useless. Particularly the heavier ones. Sure they had more armor and packed more of a punch, but if the other cars take off on you to fast to shoot, what's the point?

This is a straight forward, simple, and extremely fun game. Fans of more realistic, simulation style games with lots of customizable options will likely not enjoy it. For myself, it ranks in my top 3 favourite PC racers of all time.
