We interview Paradox's Johan Anderson about upcoming strategy game Hearts of Iron III.
i just discovered this game an hour ago. downloaded the demo hoi 2 and find this ridiculously hard. but i could see it's insane potential. any game in which you can conquer the world as el salvador is a good game imo haha. though it'll prolly take me a few years to learn how to play... anyone know where a gameplay guide exists?
After reading all development diaries i have to say that this will be heaven for any strategic WWII fan. They made so many improvements to the previous title, which was already a great game. The learning curve can be steep but there is a helpfull community, in depth wikipages and many more tools, tips, articles and AAR's to learn those games easily. Counting down to august the 4th !
i cant wait til august :D
Hearts of Iron 2 was a great game, one of its problem was that it was a bit...umm hard, at least in the start
I just came.... Seriously this game is looking so awesome that I'm not even happy I saw this video. Waiting for time to pass now will be impossible until they release it. Awesome.
Hearts of Iron 2 took some time to learn, but when you have learned it, it's probably the best strategy game ever. It certainly has the biggest scope and it's quite easy to modify anything. HoI3 is going to make it even bigger and even better. I'm concerned that 99 % of the gamers are going to never try this game if they even know it exists. I can't think of any game I've spent so much time with except maybe an MMO. nikola_paganini: I Disagree, turn based games are unrealistic and slow (what I mean is that the "Now I shoot you and then you shoot me" system is unrealistic since no one would wait for their turn in a battle) . If you want to give out orders and not worry about time passing just pause the game. The system is similar to Baldur's Gate or KotOR. Only problem is in MP since you can't pause every 10 seconds to give orders because that would be very annoying for the other players.
Meh, they're making it even bigger thus harder. They really should make this a turn-based strategy (and not RTS), then it would be perfect.
I played a bit of two, it's pretty steep. The learning curve for me was about 2 - 3 hours. It's a lot of text, and I never fully finished a campaign, I never got to WWII, just the Spanish Civil War as Germany. I wish the mechanic of Naval Combat was handled better, since Aircraft Carriers were too powerful. It was modeled off of reality, but I really wanted my battleships to be effective. El Salvador FTW! I really liked HoI because you can mod nearly anything. To make things a bit more interesting and easier for me, I modded the outputs of the provinces I was playing as, Germany at the time. Also, the game is educational, it taught me about the 'Gearing Effect' as it pertains to manufacturing. Lol, have fun guys.
Looks sweet this "Hearts of Iron 3" game. Those who have played the first couple, how long is the learning curve?, its sound pretty full on.
this is going to be good i think, can't wait for it
Maybe we can have a new Platinnean War scenario where Bhutan gets to duke it out with El Salvador.
You are such a tool dimok. Go scream with the other kids on xbox live, that where you belong. HOI2 is the best ww2 strategy game ever made.
I dream with this game. I just love it and can not wait to pre-order it. Multiplayer sounds great. Johan Andersson, you are one of my inspirations. Every Wednesday seems too far to read your development diary. Excellent job! Long leave The Master.
well he said it was coming out in Auguest so booyeah
I am in agreement with Kodos, Dimok. Children should be on the console boards, where such ignorant comments belong. Now run along.
dimok 2008: seems like your caps lock is broken, better get that fixed, and by the way: games in which you need an IQ greater than your age don't need fancy graphics
Can't wait. and to dimok2008: This type of games are not about the graphics and they never have been. Try playing it before you judge it, or maybe it's a too complicated game for you :)
