No weapons. No combat. Sadistic phsycopaths. This is arguably the best survival horror game out there...

User Rating: 10 | Haunting Ground PS2
Haunting Ground was never really popular. I really can't think of one reason that this game could be so unloved. This game is the true meaning of survival horror. With no weapons at all you'll be screaming in fear as a disturbed killer chases you down a creepy and unknown hallway!

The story is deep, twisted and very disturbing. You play as Fiona Belli, an eighteen-year-old college student, who was travelling to her college with her parents when the car mysteriously crashed. With no memory of what happened and how she got there, she finds herself in a gothic castle locked up inside a metal cage. After freeing herself, Fiona meets a very beautiful woman named Daniella who gives Fiona a very old fashioned dress and a pair of cowgirl boots. Fiona asks Daniella questions, but to no avail. Fiona is left to explore the gothic castle in hope of escaping with her own life. Along the way Fiona meets a white German Sheperd, named Hewie, who will defend Fiona at whatever cost.

The camera angles in the game are fixed, although give a really freaky feel as you can't see what's around the next corner. Maybe a sick stalker?

The atmosphere in the game is absolutely terrifying. The music is really creepy and eerie, the locations are really disturbing and the chase sequences are horrific. Your heart will be racing for sure! Something I like about this game is that when you open a door, you can't see what's on the other side as it's like a black void. At times the psychopaths can be waiting on the other side and you'll scream like a baby.

The gameplay in Haunting Ground is amazing. Fiona has no weapons, except for a whimpy kick and a few potions, that really don't do that much. Hewie is your weapon and will attack and defend for you.

I wish I could say more, but I really don't want to spoil that fantastic game. Despite how rare and expensive it can be, you must try this sometime!
