The game that started it all

Expect some strange looks when you tell people that you're playing a farming simulator. Sounds pretty boring, huh? But once you start playing, you'll find it difficult to stop.

Your parents have sent you ahead of them to take care of an abandoned farm (it's been a while, but if I'm not mistaken, I think you've inherited it from your late grandfather). You have 2 1/2 to bring the farm back to its former glory and make a life for yourself. That means 2 1/2 years of planting and harvesting, tending livestock, and wooing the girl of your dreams.

Compared to the recent titles in the series, the gameplay in this one is very simplistic. There's not much to be done on the farm. But considering that it was the first in the series, it had things covered pretty well back in its day. The only real hitch is that there comes a point when the game gets very very VERY repetitive. Every day will become wake up, tend the livestock, tend the crops, go to bed, repeat. It becomes very difficult to force your way through the rest of the game.

The graphics weren't the best feature of the game, not even at the time of release. But they weren't really that bad either. You won't have any trouble figuring out what's what in the game. And when you stand idle for a bit, your character will start exercising and moving about. That was a nice touch.

There's not much variety in the music at all. You'll find one song for each season, a song each for the town and mountain area, and something for the festivals. These songs will probably start grating on your nerves after a while.

This is a simple, but addicting game. However, it probably won't last you very long though, because you'll soon tire of the repetitiveness.
