A short, simple, fun diversion. Real Score 6.6

Its been a long time since I would consider myself a fan of the Harry Potter series. Both the movies and the books lost me about half way through the series and as I grew up I started caring less and less. However after being surprisingly impressed with Order of the Phoenix after finding it in a bargain bin I decided that Half Blood Prince would probably be worth trying out. Its a rental at best, but its a pretty decent rental.

I have no clue what was going on in this game since the story is so bare-bones that only those with previous knowledge of the book or the movie will probably be able to truely grasp what is going on in the game. That being said the gameplay is pretty simplistic, although a camera can get pretty annoying at times it is a bit of a decline from Order of the Phoenix. The game is very simple, but thats not a bad thing. Going around casting spells and mixing potions (pretty much all you do) is surprisingly fun and simple. I personally felt like the controls in Order of the Phoenix were a bit better, but other than that the game doesn't play too poorly. However the addition of Quidich which was absent last year is nice to see even if it is also over simplified.

The graphics in the game are sub-par. The characters do look like the actors that play them though, but ultimately Hogwarts look the same as it did last year. The only area I really noticed that looked any different was the addition of the Quidich field which was absent in the last installment. The sound in the game is pretty decent as well. Whether or not it is the actors from the movies I'm not totally sure, but if it isn't then the people do a pretty good job sounding like the actors from the films.

Overall despite the fact that I don't really care for the Harry Potter franchise anymore I will not deny that the games are a quick and simple diversion. Paying for more than a rental is not advised, but both adults and children should find this game to be a surprisingly fun and a not too shabby book-movie-video game adaptation.
