I never thought I’d give a game a 1, but here we are

User Rating: 1 | Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire PC

Pros:

  • Some of the mechanics are done well (Wingardium Leviosa)
  • I thought the broomstick level was short but pleasant
  • Controller support for pc was not bad (I'm really digging to find anything positive to say about this game)

Cons:

  • PC port is terrible
    • No graphics settings
    • No mouse support
    • Resolution stuck at 800x600
  • Throws the first 3 games in the trash
    • Exploration is gone
    • Point and click spells are gone
    • Collectibles are essentially gone
      • Beans are less satisfying
      • Collectors cards are just stills from the movie without any context or descriptions
    • Virtually no secrets to be found
  • Extremely linear
  • Narrative is very sloppy, almost non-existent
  • Fixed camera
  • Friendly AI (Ron and Hermoine) is horrible
    • Always getting in the way
    • Running through dangerous things and dying
    • Leaving you hanging or not knowing what to do when you need them for a spell
  • Getting all the shields to progress is really grindy
    • Requires revisiting the same levels over and over (mind you, these levels aren't boat loads of fun)
  • Combat and many of the spells are tedious with little to no payoff

Rating:

  • Story ** 2/10
  • Gameplay * 1/10
  • Atmosphere *** 3/10
  • Overall * 1/10
