A decent game for a decent price, Hard Truck II provides decent game play, but not enough of it.

User Rating: 6.2 | Hard Truck 2 PC
Hard Truck II puts you as a truck driver in a fantasy world. You start off with your standard box truck from Russian vehicle manufacturer ZiL. You're provided with enough money to make a few upgrades to your truck, buy fuel, and make repairs if the need be. You have a decent number of cities to deliver to and cargo options to choose from. You can drive around from city to city with no cargo if you want. No pressure. But, you have to deal with traffic around you. Sometimes traffic going the opposite direction as you will fish-tail close to you as though you're in their way. Disregarding that little problem it's an alright experience.

Once you start delivering cargo, however, is a different experience. Once you choose to deliver cargo, you often get set against five to six other drivers. There's nothing wrong with this, except that they try to run your off the road. This is where what little realism there is in the game ends. Abruptly. Your goal is to make it to your destination first with 0% damage to your cargo to get your entire pay off. If you manage to do this, you'll get 100% of your paycheck along with a license to hire one driver. This is okay if you can actually do that. More often than not, however, you'll find your cargo damaged from your opponents banging into the side of your truck. If that doesn't do it, then trying to keep up with your opponents will. For whatever reason your opponents have the ability to go around corners much faster than you can. You'll try to counter by going faster than them. You'll ultimately tip over, damage your cargo, and be forced to use the rescue service option. In the end you end up further behind than before with damaged cargo. Graphics aren't overly impressive outside of the truck. Blocky models and 2D objects in the foreground aren't overly pleasing. Inside the truck, however, is decent. You're treated with a 3D cab with working gauges for speed, fuel, and some trucks also show RPM and gear. You also get your side mirror to add a bit of realism.

Sound isn't anything to marvel about either. Trucks sound the same. Engine and horns alike. There's not a bit of distinguishable tone in the in the least bit. But at least this one single engine and horn sounds decent. Overall Hard Truck II is a decent game if you get it cheap. It'll entertain you if there's not a whole lot to do, but don't expect anything of a simulation.
