Kevin VanOrd sets off some fireworks in this video review for Hard Reset.
Only worth getting when it is on a massive discount - like at this time of writing.
Hoping this goes on sale during Steam Summer Daily sale. If anything, the 10% will shave some of the $$$ off.
Well, depends on what you're into of course. If you like high difficulty (consumers on forums were noting the punishing difficulty, even easy can get hectic on advanced levels and the team had to lower, think they only lowered it for the easier level), old school style fps, can run it on your PC (it's exclusive to PC but even the demo includes a benchmark- find demo on Steam), lower price point (it's short, but they don't ask full price but if it's really your type of game, you'll want to play it more than once), and it is a well supported game and there's usually a FlyingWildHog employee in the Steam forums for the game to answer questions.
This game wasn't released broken, and the patches were largely to include what the community desired (like reducing blur on sprinting), not to 'fix' the game. They listen to feedback. One of the best points is no regenerating health. It also includes achievements if you're into that and there's no mp. I hope this helps you make a decision, if not, don't forget to try the demo!
@bustalyme It's more like a rental if you ask me. Not much replay value, but it sure worths a playthrough.
@NoodleFighter It doesnt realy matter what game it is if every level looks the same your not going to like it as much. And he did say it was a beautiful game. And in this genre of game, lack of enemys is a killer. And the fact its really short and the story isnt that great and add all that together and you get a 7.0. Kevin said he was "Taking back the rating system" and hes doing a pretty good job.
First thing I thought when I heard the story intro is WHAT...THE...#&$*%?! I thought it would have been a lot more epic.

Oh wow, it's that voice actor who is in absolutely everything. This will surely allow me to suspend my disbelief
@wigwam2 be careful with your comments,Gamespot is EXTREMELY strict. calling someone "idiot" is trolling. Chill out bro.
wonderful game i think this one is like an introduction to something greater in part 2 and more hours...i am playing it now and enjoying it..the upgrade feature is great it,s like you have 20 weapons in 2...like that macgyver knife back in the day.
Did they take points down for lack of diverse enemies and location not changing much? Well your in the last human city in a world dominated by robots where the heck are they suppose to go? Kill robots on a sunny beach? As for lack of enemies shouldn't that apply to A LOT of games?
What he didn't mention was that this game is only 30.00, so half the price for half the game, on top of that its visual dazzling and its worth at least a good 5 hrs of robot pounding fun. Id give it at least a 7.5.
ok, theres no use of crouching, but still , you could give an option to somebody who likes to crouch !! haha . sprint button, why be tired after running in this type of game ?!?
WHY IS THE GEARS OF WAR TRAILER THAT PLAYS BEFORE ALL OF THE GAMESPOT VIDEOS SO TERRIBLE?!!?!?! Aahhhhhh i''m done.
@uglypinkmoose, this isnt a new developer its a hodgepodge of several great developers.
@Morf_uni I certainly think the game looks good... I might check it out if I have the money... it's always nice to see a young developer get big so I hope this game is successful... thanks for letting me know what you think
@uglypinkmoose I don't think the enemies take very long to kill. If you look at the video review a simple grenade seems to do the trick 90% of the time. But the reviewer just had fun pulling off some combo's like the gravity grenade and then throw in an explosive to finish the job. I don't have the game (yet), but from looking at the video review, it doesn't seem like enemies take very long to kill off, except the bosses. As for the video review, i think it's spot on. There's some flaws mentioned while the game still is being presented like a fun experience. A score of 7 seems valid. Now i'll go ponder what kind of awesome experience Flying Wild Hog can pull off if their flagship title sells enough copies to make room for an even greater game experience to be developed next ^__^
Do you guys realize that GameSpot alwayas giving score 0.5 lower than IG*? hehe just my assumption. anyway, good game though.
@XxCRAFTYxX I don't know the review sounded like a 7, and those reviews usually sound like the scores they get. Your going against the crowd purely for the sake of going against the crowd. Like OHH screw those big ass publishers they make alot of well reviewed games they must be the enemy!
The problem was this game didnt have the name Microsoft, Bungie, ctivision, EA, Sledgehammer or Infinuty Ward Attached or they would give it an obligatory 8 because they are whores bought by the big dogs that give every sequel to a big franchise game that repeats it's ass off no less then an 8....
@iSa91 I think the problem stems from HOW they review a game and not so much from the score itself. Some games get a 6 or 6.5 and yet the review would indicate more along the lines of a 4 or 3 sometimes depending on how they talk about it. This game SOUNDED like an 8 simply because 7 games aren't usually praised so highly. I think THIS review is more accurate to how it should be reviewed. The game was made to sound really fun but not amazing. That sounds like a 7 to me.
This game looks pretty spifftastic. But I have too many games I haven't finished yet! Haha, gotta get through them first. :P
There's a short demo on Steam if you ever want to take a quick look, it also includes a benchmark.
As I just informed another gs user, there's a short demo on Steam and even the demo includes a benchmark, you can run it and see if you can manage the game on lower settings maybe.
This game looks like it was stuck in pre-Crysis, pre-physics Quake-Unreal Tournament graphics in high high resolution, shiny glossy tech. This game really should have gotten a 3.5 for being sub par.
The review sounds more like it should be an 8 or at least a 7.5. I'm planning on buying this on Steam tonight, and this review didn't change my mind.
It's a decent game, the guns are a blast to use and being only 30 bucks makes it at least priced fairly for a short game.
What puzzles me is that even now with the words "7.0 GOOD" displayed in the very video review, people still come here and complain about 7 being a "mediocre score" .... I feel like GameSpot recently has made effords towards 5.0 really being an indicator of a mediocre game, with anything above it meaning good games and anything below that meaning bad games. And then people still act like anything below an 8 means epic fail =/
Matrix storyline ;P looks neat but I dunno....I'm not into games where every enemy takes 20 years to kill
Alpr1010 said in-part..., Well, i guess there's a lot of suckers out there that would pay $60 for 5 hours..., So true! Gears of War gave us SP's anyway what 4-hrs. & Gears-2 what about 5-hrs.? And yes I know that type of game is bought/played more-so for the MP-CO-OP aspect, but I personally think there's something very-wrong with a Publisher. charging $60+ for a game that the Dev's only giving us a 4 to 5 hrs.campaign, that's just wrong priod!
wow, you guys do understand that this game is $29.99! Also the game IS quite fun. $60 = about 8-10 hrs $30 = 5 hrs it balances out.
Well, i guess there's a lot of suckers out there that would pay $60 for 5 hours. Looks nice, but pass, at least until its cheap as dirt.
@Alpr1010 Yea I quess that make me one of them, but you see that's just it the publishers know this all too well! I.e. if suckers like myself and the like keep buying these 3,4,5 hr. SP'er (after thought) game, than the'll be more than happy to keep do it because again bottom line it's a business that is in the business of making what, wait for it.....money right?!!
5 to 6 hours is just too short. When it drops to 20 ou 30 bucks I'll have it. Anyway, seems like a good game though.
@Rusteater I bought Deus Ex: HR and one big let down are the graphics in that game! Despite some bugs with the side quests, I loved that game, but if the graphics were "state of the art" I think a lot of people that never heard about Deus Ex would be buying it! Hard Reset has great graphics but I don't like short games like that because when I finish the game I'll never play again.
