Too many Bullet Sponges...

User Rating: 5 | Hard Reset Redux PC

My gripe about Hard Reset Redux is everything takes too many bullets to kill. Your GOING to kill everything, but it's a matter of patience. I think the graphics are good, the music is good. It has cool comic-style interludes and cutscenes. It could use a map, although areas are linear, there are some corners here and there I would like to have seen on a map.

The enemies pop up on you out of nowhere, basically ignore gunfire ( it looks like you stagger but they make up ground after they get up). There are missile based enemies that seem to have homing missiles, which is very annoying. They can hit you even if you are out of sight, as they land wherever you are. There is this one boss fight with a giant cyborg type thing that was so long, boring and irritating that I had to stop there. He is the poster-child of "bullet sponge". he is severely imbalanced as that he hits you very lightly until a certain phase of the game, at which point he suddenly is almost one-shotting you. This boss is way too early on, takes way too much time to take down and way too many bullets. There is nothing necessary about that boss to make him take that much and that long - lets get this show on the road, Agnes. BORING.

All in all this feels like a welfare Doom or Painkiller wannabe. it's a nice effort, but its imbalance tips it into the land of no-fun. Well I haven't played Borderlands 2 yet... guess I'll be heading there for my gunplay.

Oh and the game is way too old to have a sticker price of $20.00, even if it is a "redux" - just the same game optimized for today's hardware.
