Halo Zero is the platformer rendition of the FPS classic Halo: Combat Evolved. A noncanonical version of the events before the first Halo game, you fight in jungles, Covenant complexes, and snowy plains just like the normal version. It's pretty fun, but the two-dimensional gameplay will leave you unsatisfied. The graphics are nice and colorful, and the grunts look almost adorable. The sound isn't shabby either. Judging the AI is sort of a moot point, it's like trying to judge the AI for Super Mario Brothers. The weapons seem sort of underpowered, like the needler, which doesn't go boom when you fill your enemy with needles. The game is also very, very short. On normal, it will only take about 30 minutes to 1 hour to beat. You can try to unlock the plasma sword, but that's about it with unlockables. Multiplayer with 2 players online is also an option, but barely anyone's online and the connection is not very good. Still, it's a very good 2-D rendering of Halo, and besides, it's free and only 20 MB. You've got nothing to lose by giving it a try.
