It was a weak, shallow RTS with nothing going for it but the IP and the financial support that came with it.
Nice atmosphere/music/cutscenes, but it was never going to gain any traction with that completely restrictive lack of depth in every aspect.
1 Like Well, I disagree with the review. This is an excellent title that is perfect for someone like me to get my feet wet in strategy games. I've never been much on these games because I found them too overwhelming with all the micro-management. This game is enough of a challenge for those new to the genre and fits in wonderfully with the Halo universe. Thumbs up for this game from me.

this is a great co-op game! I had so much fun playing this with a friend, trying to get all the achievements and such. It's not the most in depth rts but it's still fun and deep enought.

His final comments really say it all... for SEASONED Stratergy players this won't offer very much.... clearly this game wasn't aimed at those people though right? So why allow a punk Stratergy nut to do a review on a stratergy clearly aimed at Halo shooter fans?? I've read some awesome reviews about this game, one giving 9/10!! this review should've been redone
6.5 is the most bogus score ever, this reviewer is a boring retard Ensemble did a fantastic job at bringing a RTS in a place that hasn't really seen it and making it work. overall it feels like a Halo game and the controls are easy and the gameplay is fun and exciting. He says the gameplay gets off to a slow start but last time i checked all RTS games start slow until you build up your base. Great addition to the Halo universe and desrves btween a 8 and 9 in my mind. long live Halo :D
this game is mad addictive i really loved how this game was it was a fair challenge for me and i am not a big strategy novelist.
@detectivepbert That comparison is just stupid. You can't and shouldn't compare a pc game to a console. Ever. Especially an RTS. Obviously a game like this is going to be better on something that has several dozen keys, compared to something that has 14 or so. So as far as saying it sucks compared to Starcraft... Duh. I think they should keep trying to make rts' for consoles.
this game should have received an even lower score. compare this to something like starcraft 2. or even to the original stacraft. they should not try and make RTS games for consoles.
@dancingsmurfs01 Gamespot biased against Halo? Have you seen the other reviews for Halo games. They are all 9.0-9.5 except for the PC version of Halo 2. How is that biased against it?
Game spot is very bias against halo as a whole im mean look at the this review this game deserved at least a 7.5

this game is easily a 7.5-8 This game works very well on the console probably the best RTS on the xbox... and Really i didnt really wanna play a campaign for the covenet... that hasnt been put against any of the other Halo Games so why this one... this guy is a very bad reviewer... look at all the other reviews the other lowest one i could find was a 7 the highest a 9 which is the range this game is in
i would give this game like 7.5 to 8 it doesnt have a covenant campiagn but 2-5 thousand still play this online at a time and its still kinda fun covenant vs spartans and is one of the better xbox 360 games
Back in the day I would play tons of RTS, mostly online, and mostly on PC -- Starcraft and Age of Empires were my favorites. I stopped playing games altogether for a while but have recently been enjoying all the awesome games they now have both for 360 and also for PS3. I am not sure that my PC will be able to run Starcraft 2 and am looking for good RTS experiences on consoles. Considering End War and/or Halo Wars. Any other recommendations?
damn, this review is so annoying, he acts as if only seasoned strategists will play it and doesn't even talk about it being the first RTS that works well on a console........ really disappointing review, this game is great on 360 and an 8.5 at least.
Coming from a hardcore, RTS gamer, this game deserved the score it got. The story is decent, the music is good, the graphics are nice, controlling the units should be satisfying, but its bogged down by the ass gameplay. The game isn't fast paced at all, it begins very slow at first. If this game worked more like EndWar then it would be a much better game. I'm keeping EndWar, trading tis game in for RDR.
This review is fail, the reviewer sounds like an ass and he also compared halo wars to every other hardcore RTS released when the developers themselves said this would not be a complex RTS but a simple one built only for the console! This is about the same as bashing Gran Turismo 5 for not being an arcade racer when the developers themselves said GT5 will be a racing simulator!
I agree with Neil_Clancy Definitely should of been for pc i would still like to play it though
RTS games are meant to be played on the computer. That's why the controls are limited and simplistic. You simply can't get a good strategy experience on a console. If Microsoft wasn't so fanatically intent on keeping the Halo franchise X360-exclusive and had made this for the PC, it would have been a really good game.
this Gamne is bad like ass. and Tom clancy's Endwar is Beter then it but its the Best RTS game in Xbox 360
