Halo Video Review (PC)

CEA really helps illustrate how far gaming has come in regard to visuals.  Many of the core concepts of gameplay, however, aren't far off of what we expect from a first person shooter this generation.  To say that this game didn't help mold the model of the console FPS you'd have to either be a fanboy or too young to remember what FPS used to be like.

This game is not only the best and most important shooter ever made, but it's also one of, if not the best game ever made period. I've said it already on this review, it defined the FPS genre and without this, the Xbox would have never survived. This game was the start of the most dominant and incredible gamig series of all-time. Halo will forever be the king of the gaming world, and Halo: Combat Evolved is still the best in the series. 11/10.

@Bullrog Yeah remember the reason Call of Duty does so well is Because Halo showed Infinity Ward how to make a shooter...

Anyone else remember when the media tried to blame the D.C. snipers on Halo? It kept my mom from letting me play it back then, but ive played alot Halo since and never murdered anyone.

not as good as Call of Duty

This video review is what made me buy Halo back in June 2002. I had been completely ignoring Xbox and everything about it, including Halo. Just wasn't interested. Then while reading E3 2002 coverage I came across some important information: the upcoming Xbox exclusive Panzer Dragoon Orta was actually being made by several original members of Team Andromeda, and not just a bunch of random new people as I feared. Being one of the biggest Panzer Dragoon fans on the planet, that meant I would need an Xbox after all. Orta was still months away, but I figured I might as well go ahead and get an Xbox now since I had the money. On my lunch break I went to Toys R Us and told the clerk I wanted to buy one. He brought one from the stockroom and said "And a copy of Halo, right?" I said no thanks, and he gave me this look that basically seemed to say "You're kidding, right?" I might have been the first customer he ever saw who wanted an Xbox but not Halo. I got Silent Hill 2 instead, even though I'd already played the PS2 version to death. Then I went back to my office, and at some point I thought "I should check out Halo, see what the big deal is." I probably read a few reviews, but I definitely remember it was Fielder's video review that made me go "Oh, man... I have to get this game." And that night on the way home I stopped at EB and got a copy. I still play that copy to this day.

I loved how the first whole minute was just gameplay footage he could have made the whole video like that and just said "this is why Halo is awesome" and the review would be fine Haha :D

In 2001 my brother bought the xbox and said "Man you have to play Halo CE it's awesome!!" I was like yeah..yeah...cause he knows I've always been a PS hardliner. I sat down to play and did not stop until the game was over. I was like WOW that was awesome... I mean I felt like I had been somewhere, like an out-of-body Halo experience LOL. The xbox is worth the Halo series alone. Halo CE is as much fun as it was 10 years ago.Well I'm done...but before I go "Climb in the W-HOG" I'd like to thank Bungie for creating awesome games and good family fun and Gamespot for their very informative site and a place to share gaming experiences. "Gamers For The World" =)

This game will always hold a special place in my heart, it was and is still, the best FPS I have ever played. half life wishes it was this good.

@Izak80 it going to come out this year in Nov15 just one day away from the release day of the first halo game , which was Nov14 .

The review did say that this game is one of the best shooter of all time , so why some of you saying that he sounds like giving it 7.5 or so . i know he do not look emotionl but it still an old good review for good game

When is the new HD version for the 360 coming out? I was an Ps2 fan at the time and never got to experience that Halo (first playthrough) magic which swept across the gaming community.

A lot more people praise the newer Halos for their improved graphics and online. But for me, this, the first game, is and always shall be the best Halo of them all.

I remember when me and my dad first play this game! (one of the best game for the Xbox!)

This guy seems a little bored & distracted...

gamespot has evolved a bit with reveiws this guy sais he played it for hours and hours and hours yet doesn't smile once lol you would think he would know how to make a decent review, he gave it a near perfect score yet did not raise his voice or anything...no wonder he isn't around.

I have played this since it was first released...still loving it. It's one of those game you just cant get out o fyour head so many awesome memories.

Overpowered pistol ftw!!!

I just bought this game and it is good.

But i also remember some confusing leveldesign and i never liked the handling of the Warthogs.... On the other hand, i still remember the fantastic last sequence, with all that Warthog-jumping!

this game is one of kind but if you think about so is every other game with the title "Halo" in it.

i love this game way to much lol...reach is now the best in the series, but this is still a close second :). thanks again Bungie, without Halo, the Xbox wouldn't have survived this is the most important launch title ever in my mind and a fantastic game still today

after Reach, i really feel the need to play this game all over again... then skip Halo 2, play Halo 3, and skip ODST only to play Reach again. Halo CE, definitely my favorite game of all time. Hell it's the only reason I bought an xbox. it made all-nighter's a frequent occurrence.

Good times, this may sound corny but there really was something magical about this game, I got it for Xbox than for PC to play the multiplayer and loved it on both. The reviewer is dumb he has no personality, but this was a real classic. Halo is still fun and I love reach, but nothing will compare to this game.

Best and most amazing fps ever! All Halo games since, while still great games, miss the mark and don't quite capture the essence of what made the original so great! So far Reach comes closest.

I just finished yet another playthrough of Halo CE. I bought it in 2003 and I've lost count of how many times I've gone through it. I'm still amazed at how utterly amazing this game is. IMO, it's perfect. So good that even four games and almost ten years later, Bungie have never topped it. A true classic.
