Hit and miss remake of classic shooter. Fun but has flaws

User Rating: 7 | Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary X360
I already reviewed Halo:combat evolved along time ago, but decided I'd review this game too. I pretty much have the same gripes about Halo:anniversary.

First of all lets start with the games many faults. I've always felt that Halo does a poor job at setting up the story. It often feels like it's left to you to try to piece together what this game is all about. It just felt that a little back story or better prologue at the beginning of the game would have cleared up a lot of the questions I had about what am I actually doing in this game. More and better Narative would have been welcome.

I really hate that you can't turn off/turn down the music in this game...it's a small gripe, but sometimes I hate playing with music especially when it's music that annoys me.

Another small gripe is that you play with the same weapons the entire game. While there are several weapons to choose from, and you can even pick up weapons from slain enemies, you basically never find any cooler weapons throughout the game.

Levels tend to go on way too long some time. A perfect example of this is the Library level. It wouldn't be so bad if the level didn't look the same the whole way through. I found it hard for the game to keep my attention a lot of the times because it felt like I was constantly travelling through the same corridor over and over. It really gets boring. There's also one part of the game where after you finally beat a level the next level has you traveling backwards through the level you just went through...ugh..snore.

Vehicle controls can be hard at times. If you aren't paying attention and you miss how to operate a vehicle it makes it that much harder and there is nothing that explains to you how to operate the vehicle once the message is gone from the screen.

Okay so that's enough complaining now for the good things..This is a fun game, especially on co-op. The enemies are fun and entertaining, and there's always plenty of ammo kicking around to kill them with.

You shouldn't have a hard time beating the game. If you hate boss battle than you're in luck...Halo doesn't have any. There are a ton of check points in the game. There are so many checkpoints that this game could have easily been called Halo:check point. Although this does take some of the caution out of the game it also relieves some frustration.

The new enhanced graphics are great. I love being able to switch back and forth between the old and new at the touch of a button.

There are plenty of different level types, from forests, to beaches, to swamps, to snowy terrain. My only gripe as I mentioned earlier is that the levels tend to drag on and the scenery tends to look all the same per individual level.

The game has a pretty good hit detection, even without an aim down sight it's still pretty easy to hit the enemy and the enemies react accordingly...even taking cover or running to a vehicle or stationary canon.

I like that every weapon has a different feel to them and they all perform differently. You'll discover which weapons you like.

This is a small things but I always like this. The game has no multi-player achievements. Nothing bugs me more than when you can't get all the achievements because half of them are multi-player and the server doesn't exist anymore, leaving the achievements unattainable. Or the multi-player is such garbage you don't want to have to suffer through it for the achievements. So if you have skill or perserverance you can get all the achievements for this game.

I think that's pretty much all i have to say about this game. It's a solid shooter, still fun, but could have been better. Always worth a play especially if you have a friend to play it with.
