This review makes me smile. This game really was amazing :)

Man watching this just reminds me of how ridiculously good this game was. Seems like a century ago that my nights were filled with this game. When I first got on this page I saw the 9.5 rating and was like WTF!?  It beat out Skyrim and Mass Effect 3. I know it was a different time period, and a different gaming environment but still, Gamespot has never handed out 9.5's willy nilly. I got off point though, I saw the 9.5, and thought "no way is it better than Skyrim or ME3", then I thought about it and like I said, realized how amazing this game is. It absolutely deserves that 9.5 and still does to this day. it's too bad CoD4 came out and blew everybody away, this game should have gotten more time in the limelight.

halo 3 multiplayer was waaaaay better than halo reach mp:) i hope they bring back halo 3 mp in halo 4.

@WaterMeInKidd: Look at the fanboy protecting his precious. I played it on Hard. Who's the idiot now? Oh and my point was that the game was short, like most other FPS games are nowadays.

@b0sse You're an idiot. This is one of the hardest games you can ever play. I bet you played it on easy or normal. Try it on Legendary, it's MUCH longer than 7 - 10 hours if you play it solo. Get three friends together if you even have any, and try Legendary. I'm 100% sure you will die AT LEAST 100 times before you've completed the game.

The forge mode is the best feature because it feels like a level creator.

This review is great because he actually discusses the game and his personal experiences with it rather than just relying on generalities.

I bought this on a whim when I was selecting some games to go with my console and am so glad I did as it's become my favourite.

I bought it this week, waiting to arrive and play!!

I just bought it today, let's see what all the fuss is all about...

@Jedilink109: Yeah, I saw the E3 coverage on the Halo: Combat Evolved remake. Looked nice. Though they should remaster both Halo 1 and Halo 2 and put it in a compilation, like with so many other games has done. HD compilations of old games is always a good idea. Even if some of them dont turn out that differently.

@b0sse Yeah I don't know if it's available in your country or not but I think the Halo games are available on xbox live. Either way they're remaking the first game that's supposed to be out later this year so I'd just wait for that one. It'll be the same old game but look a lot nicer. :) As for Halo 2 I'm not sure. It should be online on Live I would think. You could always buy the first 2 Halo games for PC...I might do that some time actually. I kinda wonder why they never continued making those games for PC actually...

This is one of the worse reviews i've seen I like this game but a 9.5 what a joke it's like an eight

Anyhow, just finished the game. Super short single player campaign, barely even 7-10 hours of gameplay. And people saying this game is hard, you must really suck. Wasn't hard at all. Must say, I was kinda disappointed. Totally over-hyped game. There are better FPS shooters out there.

@Jedilink109: No online stores in my country that I've come across sells any old xbox games at all. It's way to rare. It's only 360, ps3 etc now thats the focus in stores. They barely even sell ps2 games here anymore. And I'm not gonna order it outside my country cause it will be expensive as hell, plus it will have the wrong region code etc. Btw, maybe the xbox live online marketplace sells old xbox titles for direct download into your console? Kinda like Wii Virtual Console and stuff?

@b0sse Try the net dude. Just get some online. I'm sure that Microsoft would NOT have taken the xbox compatibility out of the 360, so just update the system online and you should have all the data on your system to play many of the older xbox games. Oh and here's the list of the compatible games. I know Halo 1 and 2 are compatible since I played them both on my 360. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360

@Jedilink109 I do have a 360 with a 120gb harddrive (the elite version). I know it has backwards compability towards some xbox original games. But where can you buy old xbox games nowadays? Pretty much nowhere in stores in my country as far as I've seen :/ Anyway, just started playing this Halo 3 yesterday, and inside the instructions book that follows the cd-case, was a "the story so far" bit that I could read up on, so I get the gist of it. But its still pretty confusing.

Man Jeff really knew how to review FPS games. Miss ya man. Halo is just a fantastic series with a rich and deep story and universe and has the perfect gameplay. Always wil be a hardcore Halo fan and this game was truely amazing just like the other Halo games :D Epic is an understatement for this game and for the whole series, nothing will ever top Halo :)

@b0sse If you've got a 360 with a Hard Drive then you can play Halo 1 and 2 on a 360. The system emulates the xbox hardware and allows you to play the older games. Theres a bunch of original xbox games that'll play on it but not all of them will. Just look it up dude, you'll find the full list.

@ADDADAC I read around on the net asking people's opinion, and it seems I'll be fine as long as I just read up on the story and plotline of Halo 1 and Halo 2 on like Wikipedia or something. So I get the gist of it. So I think I'll finally buy Halo 3, ODST, and Reach. Only reason I've been putting of buying it cause I didn't have xbox original to play Halo 1 and 2... but guess it'll work out. Good ol' Wikipedia :D

@b0sse the story in halo 3 is hard to understand even if you haven't played the previous halos

So, if you don't have an old original xbox console so you haven't been able to play Halo 1 and Halo 2, the story in this game won't make any sense, or what?

Great all around shooter. Far more enjoyable than ODST.

This is better then the whole COD franchise combined

@eightisgreat: Buy them and complete in order! That's what I'm doing. Or if you don't have the patience I'd say Reach. It does seem the most fully featured.

Brings back memories of staying up to 2 A.M doing legendary with 4 friends. Good times :)

@detectivepbert please do get Halo 1 and 2 also. They are both also excellent games.

@TxtBin Do you have the graphical settings on your xbox like they should be?

Great Game but Metroid prime 3 corruption and killzone 2 are better without forgetting Call of Duty 4 and Gears of war.
