The Ultimate Mortal Kombat Game

Adding to MK3's 15-character roster are returning characters, Scorpion, Reptile, Kitana and Mileena. The long rumored red ninja Ermac becomes an official character. The locked character Smoke is now default, and his human counterpart from MKII is playable via button combination. Then there is a better version of Noob Saibot, and Rain is hidden in the game (but he was playable in the home versions). Also, the masked version of Sub-Zero makes a return.
Since Daniel Pesina was fired from the team, John Turk now portrays the ninjas he played as. The new characters are updated and given some cool moves, new finishers, and in addition, there are more stages to fight on. Scorpion is just like his earlier versions, the teleport punch and spear, along with some good combos. Scorpion still has his signature "Toasty!" fatality, along with a fatality where he takes his opponent to the Netherrealm, where his clan mobs the opponent while the screen fades to black. He is given a skull-in-the-box friendship, along with an Animality that is a penguin who lays an explosive egg. Reptile is given his acid spit and forceball, along with a unique run and punch move that allows you to do some good combos. He is given finishers of him eating the entire body of the opponent, leaving the legs, and barfing melting acid on the opponent. His Animality leaves us in wonder, he turns into a chimp and chases the opponent offscreen. His friendship, like Scorpion's, is a snake-in-the-box.
Kitana is given her fan moves along with the flying punch, and some combos with the fans. Her fatalities are the classic fan swipe decapitation and her kiss of death, which now stretches the opponent. Her Animality is a killer bunny, a nice reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Mileena is given her sai moves, and way better than her lame appearance in MKII. Her combos involve her sais, and she still has that annoying roll moves, along with her eat and spit fatality and her spitting nails one, which is wicked, along with her toxic skunk Animality, and her mirror friendship (Crispy).
Ermac is given moves that are a simple fireball and a fiery teleport (a lot like Scorpion's) along with a telekinetic slam that juggles the opponent, and a head decapitation fatality (could they make a better one?) and his slam fatality. He has no Animality or a friendship (MK Trilogy would give him these). Human Smoke is basically Scorpion with a gray suit with smoke coming out of him, and a head decapitation fatality (again). He also has no Animality or Friendship, and no mugshot either, just a ? mark.
Classic Sub-Zero has all the moves of the original Sub-Zero and his ground freeze move from MKII, along with a fatality where he grabs the opponents' head and the screen goes black, and an icicle impale fatality as well (or was that introduced in Trilogy?). However, no Animality or Friendship.
The other characters play the same, Kabal and Smoke were toned down in Vs. due to them being extremely hard to verse. The AI however is not nice to you, you have to be an expert to defeat the game as 1 player. But this is a great game to play with another player. The new stages are interesting, Jade's Desert, The Waterfront, The Kave, Scorpion's Lair and Scislac Busorez (the Lost Bridge). The Bank stage is completely left out. Scorpion's Lair goes up into The Kave with a simple uppercut. Scorpion's Lair has a stage fatality. No new music composed for the levels, just the older ones that seem to fit in with it.
UMK3 is a worthy arcade MK game, with a vast selection of characters and varieties. Even players who have the PSX versions of MK Trilogy will still play this one, because this one is a total classic. One of the best arcade games ever.
