The release of Halo 3 brought to gamers worldwide what would be the final story to an epic trilogy. I was not a fan of Bungie (but I was a huge fan of the Halo series) after the release of Halo 2. It was a good game and the game that I played the most out of all the games that I own, but there were still some bugs in multiplayer and the campaign wasn’t what I expected it to be. Halo 3 brought my love for Bungie back.
I’ll start with the campaign. It picks up right where Halo 2 left off with Master Chief back on Earth. The AI is relatively easy on normal and heroic can be done quite quickly with two people who are experienced Halo gamers. What really grabs my attention about the campaign is the secret skulls hidden throughout the campaign that unlock achievements and new features you can add to your campaign experience, such as the Grunt Birthday Party skull, which doesn’t give you an achievement, makes grunts explode like piñatas when hit by a head shot. Another really exciting feature on campaign is the online four player co-op and campaign scoring. Playing Halo 3 on Legendary with three buddies guarding you back is an extremely fun experience and I recommend everyone give it a try. The campaign scoring can give campaign a competitive feel when switched to free for all scoring. The multiplayer of Halo 3 is quite similar to Halo 2, but that’s what I love about it. Why change something that was a huge success? There are of course the additions of new vehicles such as the Brute Chopper and the Mongoose, and new weapons such as the Spartan Laser and the Flamethrower. One of the most exciting aspects of multiplayer is the online Forge. It lets you customize the maps to your own liking and you can even have it running while friends are fighting each other on your map. Armor customization is a nice new feature allowing everyone to have their own unique style of armor. The last thing I’d like to comment on is the addition of Infection, a new game type for Halo 3 multiplayer. For those of you that played Halo 2 on Xbox live probably remember the game zombies. That’s what this game is; infected trying to kill the un-infected until only one remains.
I’d just like to add that Halo 3 is my favorite game of all time as of its release. I am sad to see the story end, but I am hopeful that new games will come out set in the Halo Universe.
