"Huh? There's essentially one or two people right now out of everyone that has read this that say it does not work for them. How much more testing do you need?"
The GFAQs community does NOT represent the whole Halo 3 community.
"No, I don't mean something general, I mean give me an exact example of how this does not fit you, along with your GT so I can check up on your games for accuracy. If you provide substantial proof it doesn't work, I'll delete the topic."
Trueskill DOES NOT take into evaluation performances inside the game. The ONLY statistics that Trueskill takes from a game are the Mu and Sigma values of all the players, and how you placed.
That's not true for me. When I perform well, consistently, I level up. Plain and simple.

Generally speaking (but not always), when you perform well, you will place well, causing your mu to increase. Since you say "when" you perform well, I would take that to mean that you, like anyone else, have your off days, meaning that your overall consistency is not perfect. Since you have somewhat of a decent sigma value, that will allow your visible rank to increase more easily the more consistently you begin to play. I don't see how this example refutes anything I've said so far.

Except for the fact that my "visible rank" doesn't increase so easily. =/

You just said that when you perform well consistently, your rank goes up. I take that to mean easily. Either way, you still have yet to give me a circumstance where it does not work. By that I mean something like "I have won 100 lone wolves games in a row against level 10s and I'm a level 10 and I haven't ranked up".

Thanks, but I don't really mind people voicing their opinion against it. If they think it's wrong, or want confirmation before they believe it, that's fine, I wouldn't exactly call them a-holes. The reason I stick around to answer questions and deal with nay-sayers is so that people will believe it.
Though I do think you are right about people not understanding that not everyone deserves or will get to level 50; your rank is the actual representation (as close as a game engine can come to it) of your skill, and I'm pretty sure not everyone is going to be "the best" (read: level 50). It's a tool to make your gameplay more interesting and fun, not necessarily something that you can rush to the top in a few nights to get and then it tote around like a badge of honor. It is meant for people to work at and try and improve, but some people just don't understand that they will top out.

haha, I like that quote. you really have to be stubborn to keep on going in this game. I'm brand new to Halo so it took me some time to get to lvl 10, and a long time to get to lvl 20, where I was convinced that I had 'topped out' or reached my max skill ability. took a step back and tried some new tactics, got to 30, got stuck there for a while.............. took a few more steps back and lot of patience, now I am getting close to 40.
I will be one of the gamers who will potentially never realize that I will 'top out' sooner rather than later, I will have lvl 50 someday~! haha
that's my inspirational halo story. :]

From Renamon | #128You mean not getting a topic stickied that should have been stickied? How did you fix it then? This was during the days where you had to go to Site Suggestions board to request for a sticky. From there, the mod will specifically say why it wasn't stickied. They told me why and if it can be fixed, I just do the fixing and request it again. Unfortunately, I got suspended in another board and the bumps of users weren't enough to save my topic from the purge monster. (I was new to gfaqs system so I had no idea about the beauty of alts

)
So as of now, I just learn to deal with it.
As for your topic, it's hella informative. With the lack of a mod telling why it's not getting stickied, the reason is beyond me.

As for your topic, it's hella informative. With the lack of a mod telling why it's not getting stickied, the reason is beyond me. Someone told me that it might be the spoilers. A newb to Halo 3 would see SPOILER in the topic title, and be deterred from visiting the topic. One of those things that kinda makes sense and yet doesn't at the same time.
I'm gonna make another topic(without the spoilers, and with more information), but keep both of my topics alive until ONE OF THEM gets stickied.

Don't bother sending me a PM for anything. It'll take weeks to get a reply anyway, because I don't visit the GameSpot side of things very often. I'm a GameFAQs user, most likely posting from the GameFAQs side (only applies to game specific boards).Dec 6, 2007 1:35 pm GMT
I went into MM with some low level friends and each win I went up two levels while my friends went up only 1. I was a higher level facing lower levels, therefore I should have gained 1/5 of an even skill win according to the 2nd post. I had far more games and they had less, shouldn't their MU let them level better since I was pulling in high levels and they were winning against them? Out of the matches for that day, I went up about 15 levels while the best out of my friends went up about half, at 8.

This is somewhat of a tough one because of the circumstantiality of it. It all depends on what your sigma and their sigma happened to be. If you had a high sigma and they had a low sigma then that would pretty much explain it right there. For instance, say you're a 30 and you've played 500 games in that hopper (extreme example but I'm making a point) and played very streakily at that; some games were 1st place against levels higher than you and some were last place against lower levels than you, etc. Now imagine your friends are 10s, but have won every game they have played in the hopper. That would cause you to have a very high sigma and them to have a very low sigma, allowing you to increase (or decrease!) ranks a lot faster than them. That's about the only explanation I can think of, hope it helps.
