Said it before and I will say it again; Dumb ****ing system
k/d ratio is the only one that counts imo

The system makes sense. It's used to match you up with people who will give you a run for your money, which is exactly what it does in MOST cases.

Sorry, but your performance in the game IS counted.

Sorry, but your performance in the game IS counted.
No. It isn't.
I've said this before, but ohwell, here goes:
I carried a friend to 50. He went negative EVERY GAME. Yet he went from 49->50 in just two games.
For most people it takes them 5-10 games to go from 49->50. It's because his sigma value was still very high from not having played many games.
Go ahead and try it on the TrueSkill calculator. There's absolutely no option for "How well you did". Win, lose, or draw, that's all that matter as far as performance is concerned.

"Sorry, but your performance in the game IS counted."
No, your individual stats such as headshots, k/d spread, weapon usage, etc., are not counted. Only your sigma (luck), mu (true skill), rank in the game (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.), and the sigma's and mu's of the people you played with count. It doesn't count individual stats.

So, if I don't play for say...five days...and I come back and rape, I'll go up fast because my sigma went up during those five days?
Sweet, cause I'm grounded for awhile.
Nov 27, 2007 5:55 pm GMT
LuckyShot, no. Sigma only changes when you play games. The more consistent you play, the lower your sigma, and the less rank you will gain (or lose) per game based on your performance. Your sigma will not increase on its own if you don't play, even though you're not consistently playing. It only changes when you play in/consistently, not when you in/consistently play.

Bungie says it does in one of their updates, lol. I think I'll believe bungie rather than some random kid on a forum without a life.

No, they don't. Please closely read what it says. It has already been discussed in this thread so far, but here's a not-so-quick quote:
R43G4N5M4SH:
"There are some contradictions between the poster of this guide on Bungie.net and what Bungie says.
Such as the myth busting part
This means that out of all of these statistics:
Getting the MVP
Having a High K/D ratio
Getting the most medals
Skill levels of those you killed / killed you
Weapons you used
Headshots
Captures, detonations, stops, ousts, etc.
NONE of them matter when calculating the Mu increase/decrease. Any link between any of these and the skill ratings are purely correlative and not causative.
And this part of a weekly update.
If you suddenly developed a whole new level of headshot ability, for example you’d find that your skill level would rise commensurately. It is not, like your rank, supposed to climb inexorably based on experience, but rather to judge and determine your relative skill and match you with players of like skill. My experience is that games are closer, tighter and more fairly balanced than ever before. The spikes happen at the low end, as you mix it up with folks who haven’t played enough to determine a steady skill level. As you get better, progress will slow and eventually halt as the system determines your overall ability and uses that to find matches.
Not trying to put anything down, but based on that, I'd rather trust Bungie (since it is their game) and not the opinions and theories of somebody who doesn't work there. Good luck with the sticky though."
Repth:
"My interpretation, which I do not by any means thing is a stretch or a long way off from the truth, is that with a new-found ability to pull off headshots, your level of skill (not talking about the actual number in the game) will increase, causing an increase in wins (increase in mu) and probably an increase in consistancy (decrease in sigma), which will in turn cause your skill level (the numerical representation) to rise.
However, the conjecture being made is that the number of headshots in any particular game don't matter; only whether you have won or lost does. It is true that increasing the number of headshots you get will probably raise your score and help you to win more often, but the actual number for that particular game does not matter."
R43G4N5M4SH:
"I think what bungie means is that when you get more headshots, you get more kills, and therefore more wins. The headshot badge does nothing
That could be a possibility I guess.
What makes the statement so deceptive is that he follows his statement up with a comparison towards the the military rank level, therefore making it seem as if he's talking about the literal skill stats in the system.
(Speaking of what Frankie said in the update.)"
Repth:
"He could mean the numerical representation, and the argument of how the true skill system works would stay true. It makes sense either way. I don't think he was talking about a situation where you suddenly get more headshots in an isolated instance (one game) and the amount that your skill increases for winning increases more than it would had you not gotten any headshots in that particular game. I think he meant if you suddenly become good enough to get a lot more headshots then you're going to win more, which causes your skill level to go up."

Ignoring the immature comment about having no life, I feel that I should point out that no matter what you think Bungie said in the update, this is stickied on their official forum.

I'm actually talking about a different comment then then one raegan or whatever his name is is referring to, but okay. Also, keep in mind that you didn't prove anything wiht his comment. You are only speculating about what you think it means.
Nov 27, 2007 6:41 pm GMT
And seriously, reading your argument about that comment is funny also. Do you honestly think bungie would say something like "if you get more headshots then your level would go up" if they meant if you win more, then you will go up? If that's what they meant, they would have just said that.
Nov 27, 2007 6:44 pm GMT
I'm not going to argue about it. If you think it's BS, then ignore it.

Nov 27, 2007 7:04 pm GMT
So you're telling me if I have a low sigma, then lose a game by 50, then win a game by 1, my skill will actually be higher than when I started because my sigma went up as a result of losing by 50 in the first game?

Thanks Repth,
This is helpful in explaining why I haven't gone up, and I thank you for taking it to a board I actually will look in.
