Cave in sacred icon?

I was playing Halo 2 with a friend on the level Sacred Icon and we were facing one of the giant sentinel that is near a cliff and he told me to wait behind a wall. I turned around and there was a cave that was dark and filled with the flood fog. What is in that cave?

Instant death is a likely candidate.

I believe it is insta death or a flood spawn. Or both...

I hink its instant death too or maybe just a glitch that happened...but i think its instant death too!
and have you tried doing that again?
