For those about to rock....

There's just nothing like your first; your first kiss, your first pet, it doesn't really matter what it is there is a tied affection to your first experience with something that you love.

Guitar Hero is not like that.

The abiding love for this game over its descendants doesn't come from puppy love, it comes because this was a superior collection of tracks. GH is the pinnacle that none have managed to duplicate in this genre yet, not because of gameplay, not because of extras or graphics, simply because of the music. GH II was a monumental letdown in comparison, Rocks the 80s came close and GHIII claws at its heights but GH still stands alone on stage, the headliner. Revolutionary doesn't even describe what this game was in terms of genre, but setlist is what sets it above the rest of the GH universe and Rock Band. Also, and some will disagree with me here, but what else that makes this title superior is the fact that the music is all covers.

Yep. I said it.

Here's why; by making covers of all the music you insure musical quality and equilibrium. I love some of the classics on GHIII but the quality of the recording drops significantly when compared to the newer tracks. It breaks kayfabe and throws off the entire rhythm when that happens.

So looks for me still going back to the rocking horse, despite owning the latest the greatest is already on stage.
