11 Is Louder Than 10

User Rating: 9.7 | Guitar Hero PS2
This game is awesome.

Most of the games I've tried that used a peripheral (light gun shooters, etc.) usually never added much to the gameplay for me.

This game, however, doesn't seem "gimmicky" at all, even though it comes, of course, with a guitar-shaped controller.

The guitar controller is amazingly well done, too. Although I've read a lot of gripes about it, I can't complain one bit myself. I found it very responsive, very easy to use and a whole lot of fun.

With a game like this, the music is going to make or break it and this is where Red Octane really did a great job in choosing Guitar Hero's soundtrack. There's something on here for everyone. I was really worried that this would just be a collection of metal songs, but that worry was quickly erased when I saw the soundtrack playlist. There's songs from the 70s, 80s and even current radio fare. Like I said, there's a song just about for everyone in here.

It's also incredibly easy and fun to learn. You don't have to spend hours learning the guitar mechanics. The game teaches you the basics and starts you out easily enough.

Before you know it, you're pulling off hammer ons and offs and using the whammy bar and unleashing your Star Power for it's full effect.

As if it needed to be said, Guitar Hero is a really original game. There's never been anything quite like it and if you love music, you will absolutely fall in love with this game.

It's great for parties and for when friends are over, too. It's more fun and easier to pick up than dance and rhythm type games and it has karaoke beat by far for a party or social type environment.

I can see a lot of potential for this game with just updating the soundtrack.

I would give this game a perfect score if it were not for a few interface features that are left out - like not being able to view high scores without playing through the song.

Those things are completely cosmetic, though, and do not take away from the game play at all.

Other than that - a few menu items that should be selectable - this game is absolutely perfect!
