Guitar Hero: Smash Hits User Review
- Difficulty:
- Easy
- Time Spent:
- 10 to 20 Hours
- The Bottom Line:
- "Almost, but not quite"
So, I finally got the game. Unwrapped it from it's plastic packaging, and gave it a go on my XBOX 360.
First up: An error. Yes, that's right. I instantly got the message "Disc unreadable", so that was very promising. I struggled for a good few hours (it was a valid disc, not some burned fake) and I finally got it to install on my XBOX 360.
The day after, I was really looking forward to playing this. I started up the game, no errors this time, and started playing. All the tracks appealed to me, so I also imported the songs in my Guitar Hero 5 (in which I have now more than 230 songs (!)).
That is were the second flaw of this game appeared. I wanted to play the awesome songs like "Laid to Rest", "Carry on my wayward son" and "Through the fire and flames" in GH5, which I couldn't do after importing the set list. Very irritating.
So I decided to just stick with the game as it was. Turned the difficulty to 'Expert', and started playing. I appeared to me as if the purpose of this game was to let you play all the songs you liked from previous Guitar Hero games, only in a simplified version of the songs. For instance, In Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, you were absolute king if you could play "Through the fire and flames" on 'Hard', let alone on 'Expert'.
In this game, they took out all the difficult parts of both versions; Now, what's the challenge in that? And there are many songs like that in this game. I almost completed the entire thing, while 5-starring every song on 'Expert'.
This certainly indicates that this game is way to easy. But same as always, I think it's always fun to play Guitar Hero, regardless of the game.

Not the best music game, but a worthy game with a reduced price.
