While less revolutionary as its predecessor, Guitar Hero II packs a punch that will leave you begging for more

User Rating: 9.5 | Guitar Hero II PS2
Just like the first, Guitar Hero II uses the redoctane Gibson liscensed SG peripheral. Same exact gameplay as before, but hammer-on's/pull-off's are greatly improved. A new multiplayer mode (Pro Face-Off) gives the two counterparts the exact same notes, instead of different sections a la GH1's Face-off. Now GHII still has Face-off mode, but with Pro Face-off, it's uncomparable. The game has a very large setlist, over 65 tracks, compared to the first games 45 or so. GHII also reaches a wider range of musical styles, from Kansas to Heart to Avenged Sevenfold, even to All That Remains. If nothing else, GHII entertains a wider spectrum of music fans. But there is a lot lot lot more to love about this game.

Hammer-on's and pull-off's are way more responsive this time around, and an all new practice mode is there to help you master those mindbending solos ie. "Jordan". The career has 8 levels as opposed to the first game's 6. Also jam-packed with extras, GHII will keep you busy for a long time. With a generally more difficult song selection such as Megadeth's "Hangar 18" and Avenged Sevenfold'd "Beast and the Harlot", GHII is a longer and harder challenge than its predecessor.

If you're looking for hard-rockin', headbangin' pure awesomeness, Guitar Hero II is a perfect game to add to your collection.
