Already have a Guitar Hero-game? Find out if an upgrade to Guitar Hero 5 is worth the money!

User Rating: 8.5 | Guitar Hero 5 PS3
Since a lot of people have played a Guitar-Hero-game and even more have at least heard of it and the game mechanics involved, I've decided to give you a quick rundown on whether or not GH5 is worth its money even if you already have an older version of the franchise. The question whether or not you should buy Guitar Hero 5 even if you've never touched a plastic instrument before won't turn up here because the answer is quite simple: yes, you should!

PROS:
The way you can easily access and play a Song in GH5 (f. e. right from the main menu screen) is maybe the coolest improvement because it makes jamming with friends a lot more accessible and easier. The latter is great fun in the new competitive MP modes, too. The career mode became even more addictive and engaging thanks to the fact that you can earn up to 9 stars for one song when achieving certain extra tasks. Finally, I'd like to put in a good word for the track list: A lot of people have complained about the variety but that's exactly what makes it so much fun - playing the Gorillaz, Thin Lizzy and the Kaiser Chiefs in one playlist is simply awesome!

CONS:
What's really irritating is the fact that you often play instruments like keyboard or trumpet with your guitar. In my opinion, songs like The Rolling Stone's "Sympathy For The Devil" are pretty awesome, but shouldn't be in a Guitar Hero-game if there's only 15 seconds of actual guitar play in it. I'm also disappointed that the level up-system vanished completely: I had a great time "redesigning" my rockstar with the money I earned.

That's it in a nutshell! With Guitar Hero 5, fans of the series will get a worthy package of songs and innovations while newbies will find the perfect entrance in rhythm gaming!
